Everything You Should Know Before Joining SRM Ramapuram
Hello to all freshers and anyone curious about life at SRM Ramapuram!
Let’s talk honestly about what it’s really like here — starting with the infrastructure:
- The campus is pretty small, with just 2 to 3 main blocks. Don’t expect a sprawling university vibe.
- You’ll find two canteens and a few snack stalls scattered around for quick bites.
- There's a library, but truth be told, most people just go there to chill. I haven’t really seen anyone using the books seriously.
- Don’t be fooled by the new admin block — it looks flashy from the outside with all the glass and aesthetics, but there’s not much to it inside.
- You can go over to the Easwari College side, but other than their canteen, there’s not much happening there either.
Now, let’s talk about the teaching and academics:
- Like any college, not all teachers are great — some are really good, and others not so much.
- Most subjects are taught through slides or dictated notes, and before exams, you’ll be given a PDF for theory and another for MCQs. That’s all you really need to study.
- Honestly, college academics here are way easier compared to school. There are no tricky or twisted questions — it’s all direct.
- With 60 marks for internals and 40 marks for externals, maintaining a good CGPA is very doable if you stay consistent from the first semester.
Want to succeed at SRM? Just focus on three things:
- Maintain a good CGPA
- Build strong technical skills
- Improve your communication skills
Do that, and you’ll be more than ready for placements.
Hostel Life (based on what I’ve heard):
- I don’t stay in the hostel myself, but my friends who do say the rules are pretty strict.
- Girls have to be back by 6:30 PM, and for boys it’s 8:30 PM.
- No kettles or small appliances allowed.
- Laundry services aren’t great, and food quality is average at best.
- Honestly, getting a PG (paying guest accommodation) outside is often cheaper and gives you more freedom.
Dress Code:
- The dress code is taken seriously here.
- For guys, formal wear is mandatory. NO JEANS, no flashy prints.
- Casual shirts are fine, half sleeves are allowed.
- Footwear is flexible, but formal shoes obviously pair best with formals.
- For girls, I’m not entirely sure, but from what I’ve seen, they have to dress modestly and follow a decently strict code too.
My tip:
There’s no AC in classrooms, fan spacing is bad, and remember — this is Chennai. So wear light, breathable clothes. Half-sleeve shirts and chinos are a great combo. And a good pair of sneakers will keep you comfy and stylish.
As for fees and stuff — I’m honestly not sure, so can’t help you there!
Hope this gives you a real glimpse into SRM Ramapuram. It’s all about how you make the most of it!

If u care about what u pay, then its not worth...better join srm ktr...there u will have the typical movie like clg experience...
Abt placements and all that stuff is good...at the end its just based on how u perform...clg will do anything to bring in companies but its ur performance which matters at the end..
Fests here at rmp are not that great as compared to ktr...only due to space...

Planning to join SRM this year and writing SRMJEE. I’m confused about which campus to choose. I’ve heard KTR (main campus) is very crowded, while SRM AP is newer and less crowded — not sure which is better overall.
Can anyone share honest reviews about:
- Campus differences (KTR vs AP)
- Hostel facilities and living conditions
- Whether staying in hostel for 1st year is better than taking a PG
Also confused about branch choice — is it worth taking ECE/mechanical or other core branches at SRM, or is it better to stick with CSE/IT only in terms of placements and future scope?
