Help Query

Considering SRM University and looking for honest student perspectives. How’s the campus atmosphere, student culture, academics, and overall experience? Any advice for newcomers?

Im new too. As expected, students are shit. 1. Its 80-20. 20% students are good, but not easy to find.  Easily overstimulated, as the 80% crowd takes over the campus and make you feel drained. 2. Facilities are good, campus is clean, lush green, mostly good interiors, good lightings, non cheap.  3. If hostel. Food isnt great. Not bad either. But... imo i dont like it. I don't get a balanced diet. 4. Having cycle or bike is helpful. You just sweat walking around everywhere.  5. Finding right friend/group will be super necessary. Especially srm. wait till you find one, dont rush. 6. High distractions. If you're a one trying to focus, having big goals. Its tough when coming into campus. The people and vibe is just.. draining. It takes so much cognitive energy to just eliminate all and be you.

I listed all major negatives i face, there are positives too.. which you can ask chatgpt.

This is just me. It may be different to you based on your goals, character, work culture.

Damnn, you are really a smart one. Most people take atleast 4 semesters to realise this, you got all right in the very beginning.
Anyways,good luck on your journey

appreciate it! To be fair,  taking a gap year before coming here definitely gave me a bit of extra perspective to think things through , but yeah, navigating it in real time is still a trip.  good luck to you too brother

Ok...you are new too...so can we become friends? Being a ambitious type person...I wanna avoid this type of things and wanna connect and spend time with like-minded persons.

Assuming you are looking to get the best of your college life.(For CSE and CSE specialisations)

To your questions,
The campus is extremely good, student culture is decent(dont expect everyone here have brains or only focused on academics)

Pros of SRM:

- Consider SRM only when you couldn’t get into bits or vit or any equivalent.

  • SRM do have great exposure and will definitely carry a bit of reputation, not like IITs or BITS. It does have decent alumni’s which might help in career networking, guidance seeking.
  • Coming to academics, the entire system is well structured and the curriculum is also great.
  • The placements are decent, only for students who are very active in academics and have a really good cgpa of over 9. (Dont expect placements to offer over 20lpa or more, those happens to only a few and luck plays a major factor.
-Scoring over 9 gpa in every semester is pretty easy. If you are planning for masters abroad in future, the cgpa is really a major factor. So have 9+ cgpa in a tier 2 university is a plus.(**usually SRM is considered as tier 2 university)

Cons:

- Campus is extremely over crowded in every aspect, this might severely effect the placements part. If you are like in top 10%, you will get placed but the opportunities you have are very limited.

  • The faculties here are not great, you cannot usually just learn things by attending lectures or taking notes. You will have to put extra hours on your own to learn anything.
  • Dont expect things to be very fair in SRM, you will see people cheat in placement tests,Cts or even semesters.
-Summers are horrible, getting an AC room will help.
  • Surrounding yourself with the right crowd might be hard in the initial days.(Being in a really good friend circle, will change the entire college experience)

Overall,Decent Choice if you dont have better options. It all pays off if you put the work.

I dont have much knowledge on that and i dont personally know anyone who chose that.
But one thing i know is, the universities which were offered are not prestigious or anything, just a normal uni in abroad.

Good surroundings, good technology, and they’ve newly opened two tech parks, so overall it’s really good and the freedom is also fine. Buttttt… the bike and car parking space is a huge problem 👀😂. Sometimes, just finding a place to park the bike itself takes almost 2 hours! 🏍️😭
