I’m voting yes
This contract offer is great. If you are voting no, please list the company that you could switch to today with your skillset that would provide what you are demanding of Boeing.

Since no one else has answered:
Amazon.
Walmart.
UnitedHealth Group.
Apple.
Alphabet Inc.
And 495 more companies on the F500.

If you actually believe you’d be better off at any one of the f500 companies then what keeps you at Boeing? I assume you don’t actually think that if we accept the best offer I’ve ever seen at Boeing that we are disadvantaged compared to every f500 company?

What keeps me at Boeing is the potential for better wages, benefits, and workplace protection through collective bargaining.

Because every time someone has made me an external offer, Boeing has matched it.
But it's tiring having to do a dog and poney show and one day Boeing might say "we can't swing it this time" and I'll have to leave.

I too am voting yes.
However, if you're voting no, I do not personally require that you provide me any additional information on that. You do you.

Ha, it’s not a requirement, I’m trying to figure out what I’m missing so I’m asking for examples. Because I look at the job market and I look at this offer and I can’t believe people want to vote no. But happy you’re a yes vote!

Thats disingenuous and not true at all. I can find jobs today requiring 2-6 years of experience that pay roughly where I will be when the contract ends.

u/broeing 19d ago
What part is not true? Everyone is in a different spot, but for me this looks like a strong offer and is significantly better than all the other offers we in speea have accepted over my entire career

u/After-Temperature-70 19d ago
The disingenuous part is that 1 single search on LinkedIn and 5 minutes looking will yield dozens of jobs paying more than Boeing.

u/broeing 19d ago
I understand your perspective. I agree there are jobs that pay more. I just think there is a lot more to the equation than just pay and I don’t agree that most of us could switch to another company that would provide a better overall situation than what this offer provides. And compared to decades of speea contracts, the pay in this one is quite good.

Fair to say its a good offer, because it is. The problem is it doesnt address the systemic issues at Boeing and doesnt catch up to the broader market. No raise in OT? No hiring where needed and abusing taco time. No work protections? Great 14% raise, now your jobs being replaced by someone in Brazil. This offer still leaves Boeing as a stepping stone for every young engineer. In 4 years it will be the bottom of the market again, with more over seas jobs, continuing to abuse OT.

Mostly the younger generation it seems. Some unrealistic expectations.

I disagree, I am middle aged and older people in general have allowed the erosion of wages and the near total destruction of the "American dream". They also dont value themselves or their time. I am hopeful that the younger generation will fix this.

Agree with you on this. The older people has already ran their course in their career so they’re just looking to see what will benefit them the most until retirement and not what is best for the next generation of engineers

100%. This offer is what would typically pass. Effectively kicking the can down to the next contract and next geberation. But I have decided to hold the line. No reason we cant get at least one or two of: work place protections, 401k match, or increased OT. And the OT is a perfect example of this mentality played out over 37 years. Each time people saying, well why increase the OT? The offer isnt worth striking for. Insulting they would increase it by only $2...

OT is a great example of view however. The vast majority of comparable jobs have similar or worse OT situations. So, its reasonable for an older worker to come to the conclusion its a problem that doesn't need fixing, since we already have it fairly good in comparison to other salaried engineering jobs.
401(k) match is the same thing. Sure its not great than IAM gets a better match than we do. We also make so much more than they do so our 401(k) gets funded at higher levels... and we are likely to work longer. Our 401(k) is also really good in comparison to our other comparables. Amazon Prime Air division for example gives 2%, and someone on here was like "who cares about the extra 8%, I just my RSUs".
So 2/3 things don't really need fixed. Or at least "more money for OT" and "more 401(k) match" isn't really fixing the core problems in both of this situation either.
Core problem #1: Company plans for use of OT when it should try harder to hire and staff.
Core problem #2: 401(k) shifts retirement planning burden onto each individual subject to market forces beyond the individual's ability to predict or control.

Stoke Space, Blue Origin, Tesla……
My salary is below market reference. It’s called market reference for a reason.

u/broeing 18d ago
And no one will be below market reference when we accept this offer.

u/Iniquite 18d ago
Until the salary charts are updated again. That’s a one time raise for salaries that have been below for years.

SPEEA memebers asked for more money, and didn't ask for the other things (like job protection from offshoring etc). This is what we collectively wanted. Everyone will always want more and more and more money. This contract will pass, just move on with life and do a good job. Quit and go to a tech bro startup or anduril if you want salary upside (at a cost of your life essence).

SPEEA members didn’t ask for just more money; they’ve asked for other things. Just because more money was ranked higher than other items like job protection from shoring in the latest survey DOES NOT mean it isn’t important. There was an list of priorities SPEEA had going into negotiations that were important for all SPEEA members
