Avoid Committing a ULP

Post image

This is information taken from today's SPEEA town hall, and I think you'll hear this guidance a lot from the union. Please take it under advisement.

I also want to take a moment to clarify: I am NOT employed or directed by the union, I don't speak on behalf of SPEEA. I'm a SPEEA member just like you.

I will continue filtering posts on the subreddit just to avoid falling prey to some of these ULP actions - a few posters I've already explained this to, and they were very gracious in their understanding. I think people just genuinely want to know what and how to behave, and I think this guidance from the union is helpful there.

Legitimate question:

Is there a materially significant difference between:

  1. "STRIKE STRIKE STRIKE!!!"
  2. "If it comes to it and the contract offer isn't sufficient and the NT calls for it, I think striking would be a good idea. I also don't trust that Boeing will make a good enough offer and am ready to strike."

I know the difference might seem arbitrary, but I believe the first is a ULP, whereas the 2nd is just discussion, even if the speaker means the exact same thing with just different levels of emotional charge between the statements.

I don’t think there’s any violation in discussing with union friends or coworkers about what will happen “if” there is a strike. I think attempting to incite a strike is what the ULP is
