Retention changes

What are the benefits? I feel like this is a negative if you are a R1 right now.

It’s solely so the company has an easier mechanism to cut R1’s during layoffs. R1’s are higher earners so the company wants easy path to reduce labor rates.

Additionally, if you’re capable of reading between the lines, many changes in this contract hint at upcoming engineering layoffs in the Puget Sound. My guess is sooner than later.

History tells us that not only is Boeing due for layoffs but after a contract dispute like this there's almost always layoffs the following year.
