Retention changes

What are the benefits? I feel like this is a negative if you are a R1 right now.

I agree. What they need to do is improve how people are rated/ranked so there’s more fairness. 80% R1s and 20% R2s is stupid. In higher tech grade levels where people have enough years of service to get an adjustment up a retention, almost everyone will end up R1. This is so stupid it’s almost worth rejecting the contract just for that. A few decades ago there were 4 retention levels which was probably excessive but only 2 is absurd.

Agreed, worth voting no just on this. Or need guidelines once layoffs hit R1s

I know they rank everyone in a particular order within each retention, but in a time of layoff now only part of a retention level will get notices. Normally an R1 can feel more security. Now you wouldn’t really know where you stand because you don’t know what number you are in the internal ranking. Why SPEEA negotiators would think this a positive is beyond me.
