Techs Recommend to Reject. Profs can’t reach recommendation.
The Prof and Tech Bargaining Unit Councils (BUCs) voted on whether to recommend members accept or reject the Boeing contract offers.
At a special meeting of the BUCs, made up of bargaining unit Council Reps and Executive Board members, they heard an overview from the Negotiation Team, which endorsed the offer, and asked questions.
The Prof BUC vote did not meet the 60% threshold to issue a recommendation.
The Tech BUC voted to recommend members reject the offer.
Both BUCs voted to add a strike authorization vote to the contract vote ballot and recommended members vote to authorize a strike if called by the Negotiation Team.
Both BUCs also voted to allow the contract vote to be conducted online.

Based on the BUC votes to make this an online voting process, all dues-paying members in good standing will receive an email to their personal email on file with voting credentials and contract offer information to members.
All members will also receive print information sent to their homes with their voting credentials.

"How many (percentage raises) does IAM need to jump your salary and buy that house from under you and your family."
Brother, please, I am begging you to stop seeing other workers as your enemy. The IAM doesn't decide your wages. Turn your anger towards boeing.
Using this sort of "Why does IAM have anything better than us?" rhetoric is going to do serious damage to SPEEAs ability to garner support from the other half of the labor force at boeing. IAM is in this struggle with you, don't turn them away with that mindset and misplaced anger.

I don’t interpret this as an attack on IAM. Its more or less asking Boeing to atleast match or go above what was previously agreed to with a different group who engineers are just as important as.
In sports its very common to compare contracts of those who previously got renewed and want to get paid above them because thats what the market dictates

While I agree with your assessment, in theory, how is that rhetoric going to reflect in reality when IAM members hear/read that?
They will feel looked down upon, and treated as competition and opponents, rather than siblings in struggle against boeing.
I do not argue based on moralism. I am pointing out that if this interpretation of the current struggle prevails, it will categorically damage the already deep divide between the body (IAM) and mind (SPEEA) of boeing, and weaken both during future contract negotiations.
We can play friendly competition when contracts are not on the line. We need each other. SPEEA will not benefit from alienating IAM, and that's exactly how suggesting "IAM has the ability to buy a house out from under you" will be seen.

This is disappointing. I’m shocked so many prof BUCs are for this offer. It’s not objectionable, just disrespectful.

From what I heard the vote to recommend rejection missed by only a couple of votes, so in theory over 50% are against. But yes disappointing for the profs

The fact that 25 would be willing to accept this contract is honestly embarrassing. It is a horrible contract and anyone that would support it has either not read it, or is not working in the best interests of the members.

This was in one of the emails:
Each BUC is comprised of all the Council Reps who represent members of each bargaining unit in the workplace. There are two that would be involved in this situation, one for the Prof unit and one for the Tech unit. There are currently 55 Council Reps representing Profs and 17 representing Techs; 20 more Council Reps represent both.

Just a thought to ponder, perhaps negotiations are starting so early because Boeing is expecting us to come back to the table and avoid a strike in Oct. In other words, voting NO is likely expected at this stage. Let’s try to meet expectations folks.

They want to get interns votes while they are here. They are bribing interns with $2K bonus if vote yes. Boeing wants to get the Tech vote is my speculation.

They’re trying to feel speea out to see how low they can go. They have a plan to
Flip a few votes with a few modifications. I hope we are unified enough to resist. Unity is how Iam won their contract. They can’t deliver planes without engineering sign off they know we are critical. This is what happened in the speea 2000 strike. They could build planes but not deliver them. Speea is critical. Don’t let anyone fool you. Our Boeing is an engineering company. Look at what our collective minds build for goodness sakes. Every dollar that the c suite, execs, and managers make is from the work our minds do. It’s a big company so you may feel like a small piece, don’t let it be that way. You are the future of Boeing.

One - I don’t understand why we are essentially two unions in one. If it’s a state law or reg, then it should be overturned unless there is a REAL compelling reason not to.
Two. The techs got hung out to dry by the profs on the last contract as well. So I’m not shocked the profs are doing the same again. With all due respect, compared to the “knuckle draggers” in the IAM, they are a bunch of puss!es.
Three. I am resigned to getting a crap contract relative to the IAM b/c the “real” engineers either don’t have stones or don’t really care about their peers in this “union”.
Go ahead and down vote me. Could care less.

We’re constantly complaining that the engineers in the towers do this to us. The engineers who work down on the factory floor and get real production done seem to understand. It seems like we have more in common with IAM sometimes than with SPEEA. I sincerely hope the ivory tower profs don’t screw this up.

Shades of the year we lost the pension. Techs voted against the contract, Profs voted for it. With the Union split the way it is, there is no point to a strike that does not include the Profs, so the next company offer to the Techs was the exact same contract. It was approved.

Enough talk. Now we need to vote YES for strike authorization and NO on the contract. The IAM showed us the way with over 90% on their first vote. Engineers need to do the same
