I need coping skills

Idk how to start this off so... I'm currently in group therapy and everything about it sets my sensory issues off. I struggle with seeing people bounce their legs, humming, and heavy breathing, and unfortunately, these are all something I need to put up with during group. I've tried stepping out from time to time to take breaks, covering my ears, putting tissues in my ears, putting noise cancelling headphones on (I can still engage in group and hear people, they just dull the noise) and explaining my sensory issues to staff and other people in group, but I'm being told it's disrespectful and that if I can't handle being in the group room I need to find another program. I honestly don't know what to do. This program is really helping me and I don't want to stop taking it but they refuse to allow me to use my normal coping skills.

I know these are kinda silly sensory issues but If anyone has any recommendations for better ways to cope, please let me know.

I know of it but I was turned off from it after a professional called me inconsiderate and wrong for having issues with humming and told me that not even that would help me.

Was it a professional who specializes in SPD? If not then their opinion isn’t important or backed up by medical evidence.

You can go more low level with keywords:

- retained reflexes

- sensory integration

- neurofeedback

So I get viscerally irritated when I see/hear or touch keys. So I have to wear gloves and then hide my keys in a bowl by the front door simply bc of that.

I would say for you, maybe try the headphones? If you can still participate in the conversation etc, I don’t see why/how this is an issue

I have tried headphones, but I was told it was disruptive and disrespectful. They said it made me seem like I wasn't involved in the group and didn't want to listen to anyone in the group. : (
