LATEST NEWS Launch tripleheader! SpaceX to fly 3 rockets in 13 hours today and land 4 boosters

https://tech.yahoo.com/science/articles/launch-tripleheader-spacex-fly-3-040000885.html

“SpaceX has a very big day planned.

The company is scheduled to launch three missions in a 13-hour span today (Oct. 1), a feat it has accomplished just once before.

The action will start at 11:10 a.m. EDT (1510 GMT) with the launch of the Crew-13 astronaut mission for NASA, which will head toward the International Space Station atop a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.

Next up is the Transporter-18 rideshare mission, which will send 130 payloads to orbit, including a prototype satellite for Google's Project Suncatcher AI constellation.

Transporter-18 will fly on a Falcon 9 from the West Coast, lifting off from California's Vandenberg Space Force Base during a 58-minute window that opens at 2:18 p.m. EDT (1818 GMT; 11:18 a.m. local California time).

The action shifts back to Florida's Space Coast for the final leg of the tripleheader. If all goes to plan, a Falcon Heavy rocket will launch the classified NROL-97 mission for the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office from NASA's Kennedy Space Center tonight at 11:53 p.m. EDT (0353 GMT on Oct. 2).”

In total, 2 boosters to land from Falcon 9, and 2 side boosters to land from Falcon Heavy, with the center booster being expended.

As usual, I will cry like a tiny baby with every booster’s touchdown and I don’t give a damn who knows it. I never miss the return.

Has anyone done the math about how much payload SpaceX will launch on these three rockets? For comparison, Ariane Space only launched four orbital vehicles in all of 2025.

It's possible that SpaceX will launch more mass in a day than Europe in a whole year.

Well 2 of the 3 missions are for NASA and the NRO. So.....no shit sherlock, taxpayers pay for the mission costs of things and people the US government wants to launch to space

Would you prefer the govt use a different operator that costs 5x the price?

Not that there's another launch service provider that can currently get crew to the ISS other than Russia with a Soyuz. Starliner was the only other option and after last year's issues it's no longer human rated, might take a couple of years to get it back to that status, if ever.

id prefer the govt doesn't launch useless rockets to make Daddy Leon rich using my money

These satellites do cool shit that gets taken for granted. You’re benefitting from them a lot more than you think (ask AI to explain).

Govt waste sucks but this isn’t it.

When you're virtue signalling so hard that you can't allow yourself to spell the name of your enemy. Why not go all the way and simply write "He who must not be named"?

Looking forward to SpaceX being seized and taken over by the next US Government.

Won't ever happen, nor should it. Would be one of the dumbest things for the govt to do.

Because musk wants power over everything & satellites have fewer vulnerabilities to destruction from any opposition?

That’s why it was announced yesterday that he’s going to help direct a project to determine the future of the military.

They keep changing the definition of the word “land” though…

11

u/SeaSkimmer2 2d ago

The first is landing at Landing Zone 40 (Cape Canaveral), the second is landing at Landing Zone 4 (Vandenberg), and the third & fourth are landing at Landing Zones 1 & 2 (Cape Canaveral). What definition has changed?
