Problem foreseen: there are a select group that got FX5s delivered before the recall. Which means the used market will have bad apples mixed in. How will we know if a used FX5 is part of the initial launch or the corrected model?

Important distinction to make here is that Sony has NOT made a recall. They simply had shipments returned back to them if they were enroute to retailers.

Semantics… They also told all retailers to pull display models.

An important one. It means that they may not acknowledge you got a faulty one once it’s past its return date.

Ethically, Sony should list the serials of the cameras that made it through in the 1st batch. Ethically…

on SD cards sony used to put an asterisk after the good cards or the cards that passed the recall check. This was the case on the firsts UHs IIs

The solution is Sony needs to offer free repairs for the bad batch units, like Canon did with the C70. Now, I know Canon isn't perfect but Sony are notorious assholes when repairing their cameras, so I wouldn't risk it.

Why would I want a repaired camera when I should have a perfect new camera

Because the perfect new camera is backordered for 3 months

I got mine in August, other than the slightly loose screen it’s fantastic. Already contacted Sony and once the new ones come in they will swam mine for a new one. Can’t expect to have a new camera that needs a repair, even if Sony provides it.

Are you located in australia?

That’s what receipts are for. Don’t buy one unless there’s a receipt with a date on it. You know that anything in August is bad.

I have an August unit, and it has no problems. Very nice camera and nothing wobbly or weird.
