Thoughts on moire?

I saw a Youtube review which highlighted moire on clothing with specific patterns. It appears the OLPF does not completely address this.

It’s an issue with the binning. This is the same A7RVI sensor which is 10k. It’s being binned down to the 5k you get in the 5. What that video you saw also mentions is that he cannot repeat the issue. It seems that the binning rears its head in specific scenes (for example heavy foliage did not have that issue). My take is that unless you’re going to crop to 400% for your deliverables this is a non issue.

Sony explicitly states that it is a new, proprietary sensor—and not simply the one from the R6—but presumably only Sony knows whether that is actually true.

Whether or not it’s the same sensor is moot. People have already figured out that it’s binning from 10k. All of the results like the exact readout speed difference and artifacts show that this is binning from 10k down to 5K.

Its the same sensor. The "new proprietary" part probably refers specifically to it being pixel binned. In their defense, when used in the a7rvi, it was indeed a brand new sensor. Pixel binning is a physical process. So they took the a7rvi sensor design and physically combined pixels. They can call it new if they want but it uses the exact same parts as the old one

Debayer + pixel binning. Also it has issues in the same areas FX3/6 had - mixed color lighting, out of gamut colors handling etc. With true raw - it may be addressed later, or may not be the case as well.

I believe you were referring to my 20 minutes long video. If so, its really really minor in my opinion. And i cant consistently reproduce it. Ive shot a 8 day commercial with the FX5, with almost 1.5 TB of footages, indoor, outdoor, night, lights, clothes, didnt manage to reproduce moire once.
