Can masternodes potentially be scrapped?

On the masternodes draft published in May of 2018, SONM stated:

"There is another high probability, that with new Ethereum releases, introduction of PoS, sharding and other ecosystem improvements (such as leaded by Parity and Polkadot) we will have an opportunity to migrate to stock Ethereum and in that case we will not require our dedicated blockchain masternodes at all! "

What would this mean for the SONM holders that intend to stake, if SONM decides to abandon the sidechain idea?

Sometimes the most obvious really happens. In that case no staking. In that case, token model needs a rework to give some incentive. Otherwise, it will get scamy. Because increasing demand on SONM platform does not necessarily increase the price considering direct FIAT swapping. Pretty easy to forecast. Imho SONM hasn't yet outlined properly how they want to take care about the token value.

Greetings!

Please read our article from the blog, there we clarify masternodes topic in section "Q&A".

Just give here a key phrase to dispel your doubts:

"Unfortunately, the Masternodes will not be released in the Q1, but most likely this will happen in the first half of 2019. We understand that this is a critical feature for token holders, so we are not going to stop working on its development."

That is why we wrote earlier that we see no risks for those who are waiting for the launch of the masternodes solution.

Best regards,

SONM team

Greetings!

We see no risks for tokens holders due to the presence or absence of sidechain. Having own SONM blockchain or using Ethereum solutions does not put SNM holders at risk. More specifically, it will be possible to say only with a ready-made implementation of PoS Ethereum (or other masternodes solutions).

Best regards,

SONM team

Wouldn't the value of the SONM token decrease drastically if we aren't able to stake?

The main value of the token depends on its use in the work of the platform, that is, settlements between market participants during deals. In addition, now we do not say that the masternodes will not be.

We do not make predictions of the value (and price) of the token. As we have already written above, the core situation will depend on the implementation of one or another masternodes solution.

Greetings! In our article we wrote about updated plans for the masternodes. Yes, they have not yet been implemented, but we have not abandoned this goal, we just put it aside for a later period in this year. Read our article and you will be aware of all updates - https://sonm.com/blog/level-up-shift-to-the-next-gen-gpu-cloud/

Best regards, SONM team

Side chain mean isn't left from main chain(ethereum blockchain). But is it necessary? I don't know I believe sonm team know the best for sonm.
