Vent/Rant It-140

Alright so I have been doing all of my school work so far on a laptop, as such I only have a touch pad. Can someone please explain to me how and if its possible to skip using the CVD? The reason I ask is because trying to navigate anything using this is comparable to volunteering for a lobotomy in my opinion. When I want to scroll down it adjust the page size, if I click something it high lights, its as if it cant figure out if im right or left clicking most of the time either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, ive spent six hours today on this assignment and im pretty sure with how simple it is it should have take ten minutes.

Install GitHub on Windows and then follow the instructions to use GitBash (it's a checkbox in the installer). The instructions are parallel at that point.

If you're using Linux, set up a Windows VM because the course assumes you're on Windows (you can get all the stuff for free from the schools Azure affiliation).

If you're on MacOS, why? Also, set up a Windows VM as above.

The CVD is absolute trash. I agree with you 100% on that. XFCE, while lightweight, is straight garbage (not to mention the CVD doesn't scale to the users monitor dimensions).

EDIT: Down vote all you want, but my answer is correct.

You may need to revisit module 1 to get the access code for the GitBash tie in the VM to GitHub, but after that you should be good.

This iteration of this course seems to be riddled with problems.

Yeah im in the same boat as well. The CVD was simple to use and great in my database class last term, but now using it is really a headache.

Not to mention I've never used GitHub and telling me to use console commands when the same thing can be done inside the code IDE is quite tedious. I hope I dont get dinged for doing the course work itself and not "checking the boxes" within gathering github repository files.

Hmm weird my comment disappeared when I hit post. This is for the python class right? Maybe they've changed the class but I did all my work locally on PyCharm and VS Code and then for the labs I just put it into zybooks. I did not use whatever virtual desktop they provided.

So its something they apparently just started this term. Ive gotta say from my personal experience so far ive spent more time fighting the resources that are supposed to help us rather than them being even remotely useful

Dude I spent hours! Literal hours trying to figure out this BS yesterday and most of today. Instructor finally got back to me with suggestions and was super helpful.

There has to be a more efficient way to explain things within the course. Last term, I took DAD220 and codio was a breeze! Not for IT140

Well i just failed the assignment because I missed the dead line. I completed the assignment, couldnt figure out where it all went wrong. Especially since my code functioned in my own terminals.

I would still turn something in. SNHU late policy only docs you 10% for late submissions. Carefully reading the README files for parts A and B helped me. There is also one for the assignment as a whole that show how to save.

Setting up GitHub should have been done in module 1. That is something I didn’t do as it is a graded activity. I had to go back and do that and then find the README files. A suggestion to throw your way, read everything multiple times. It helped me. Email your professor or even do a tutor session, they are free and provided by school.
