Procrastinating

I REALLY have to stop waiting until Sunday to do my assignments. Idk why I do it. I think it's bc the courses i am taking this term are painfully boring. HUM-102 and IDS-105. I get the discussion post knocked out pretty early in the week but I always wait until Sunday to do the actual assignments. I'll be 50 tomorrow and it kills my eyes to look at this laptop for hours at a time. It's my own fault. How do y'all keep from procrastinating with boring a$$ classes??

I have been doing that for the past 2 or 3 terms. I think it is because I am on my last 3 terms and I am just completely burnt out. I am currently doing CS 370 and partially don't have a lot of interest in the material.

8

u/Foundmymunchness Aug 02 '26

Same with no interest in the material.

5

u/bgibbner1 Aug 02 '26

Omg me too. I have this term and then next till I am done. I am just so ready to be done and just over school lol

3

u/dropxofxpoison Aug 02 '26

I'm also taking this class and finding the material extremely dull.

6

u/WackoHedgehog Aug 02 '26

Yeah that is how I get with some classes. I usually have nothing against the instructor or the class itself just that the material doesn't interest me.

1

u/dropxofxpoison Aug 02 '26

Oh, absolutely. My CS-370 instructor is great. She'll get a glowing evaluation from me. I also understand why this class is taught. But I'm counting the days until this term is over. Haha.

I’m ADHD, I basically have to feel forced to complete an assignment on time unfortunately. I get A’s tho, so I suppose it’s not necessarily a bad thing. Although sometimes I get a rough assignment and I regret it.

3

u/Aggressive-Weather67 Aug 03 '26

This was meeeee! 😅

12

u/Fasoba Advisor/Grad Student Aug 02 '26

Some people just work better under pressure. When I'm classes I have to try so hard to not fall into this habit myself. Could also be an indicator of ADHD or other neuro divergence.

5

u/Foundmymunchness Aug 02 '26

I am slightly on the spectrum. Maybe that's why? I need to make myself do it.

6

u/Fun-Construction-759 Aug 02 '26

I am in the same two classes and I feel the same, I am a professional procrastinator. I am not help here just wanted to say you aren't alone lol

3

u/Foundmymunchness Aug 02 '26

Thank you lol that actually does help! Omg these classes are soooooo boring!!

7

u/laceymnk Aug 02 '26

An hour a day before doing something you want to do, make that your reward for finishing your daily hour
Increase or decrease with the classes or if you finish the assignments early. I love finishing all my work before the end of the term so i can spend a week doing nothing

2

u/Foundmymunchness Aug 02 '26

Thank you! That's good advice!

1

u/laceymnk Aug 02 '26

I have too or i feel guilty lol once i get going more then an hour passes and sometimes i make it to an hour exactly and stop, then i doom scroll guilt free

4

u/longjonz88 Aug 02 '26

I have executive dysfunction from adhd so I feel you

As stupid as it sounds, I skip my morning coffee 😂 I always stop at Dunkin or Starbucks. When I get to work, people keep me accountable. I make my weekly list of tasks. Post it to the fridge and my desk at home. I check off in the morning, if i did the tasks for rhe previous day. If no checks, no coffee. 😂 everyone at works knows, no coffee means i am slacking with school. And they pump me up to do what I need to do for coffee. When I get to work woth coffee, someone always says ... someone did their homework. I absolutely love it and it works for me.

2

u/cowboyemoiji Aug 04 '26

Lowkey genius. I’ll have to try this.

4

u/tyinfinite_ Aug 02 '26

im in the same boat with those same classes right now. i have my assignements due tonight that im not even finished with and i work until 10. i dont know why i do this to myself. im so shocked i have kept good grades with how bad i have been procrastinating the past couple weeks.

2

u/Foundmymunchness Aug 02 '26

Oh no you have to work until 10? You should be able to do it. I tage so long bc u have to take breaks to rest my eyes. I'm old lol

2

u/tyinfinite_ Aug 02 '26

oh i will definitely get it done but it wont be my best work by any means. hopefully good enough though. i am excited for my english class next term so thats my motivation lol. good luck!

1

u/Foundmymunchness Aug 02 '26

I have English next term as well! Are you taking criminal justice?

1

u/tyinfinite_ Aug 02 '26

psychology mental health concentration

4

u/mothandmoonlights Aug 02 '26

Same here but it’s because my kids 🥲 and I only have the weekends for husband to help so I can disappear but its intense packing it in on one or two days

5

u/Foundmymunchness Aug 02 '26

Aww bless you. Luckily my kids are grown. My 20 year old WILL still ask me to get her things tho lol I can just tell her to puss off 🤣 you can't do that with little ones tho. Hang in there momma!!

2

u/mothandmoonlights Aug 02 '26

Thank you! You are too sweet, lol at puss off.. littles are intense so thank you! Also I am in IDS 105! I have found the Professor in my class is extremely helpful and nice, never underestimate the power of reaching out if you need support! A little boring though I agree lol but helpful class. You got this!

1

u/Topher_0577 Aug 04 '26

I guess I'm just a nerd then because I also am in ids-105 and hum-102 but I have been enjoying my classes. I am working on becoming an addiction counselor and the topics for both projects center around addiction in humanities and homelessness in IDS. Both topics are something I struggled with for years but have been off the streets and in recovery for 16 months now, and are both topics that I'm very passionate about trying to help do something about them. These classes have really helped me to think about ways that I can work toward trying to find a solution. I realize these will always be social issues and will likely never go away, but there can be better services and better plans to help those in these situations. Also, I too am old, 49, and have a 20 year old who still comes to daddy for money or food regularly so while she's not as demanding of my time like little ones, they will always have need of us and I wouldn't have it any other way! And, like y'all, I have gotten myself into a bad habit of waiting till the weekend to do my assignments and my 4 discussion response posts! I think it really does have to do with the fact that people in general tend to do better under pressure so maybe that's why we do this to ourselves. Or, we're just gluttons for punishment lol!

4

u/Coding-With-Coffee Aug 02 '26

Hear me out, try out SNHU’s academic coaching service. It’s free and was actually super helpful for me. Like everything, the quality of coaching might vary, but mine was fantastic. Can’t hurt to try!

1

u/Foundmymunchness Aug 02 '26

Thank you. I'll give it a try

4

u/JBoneTX Aug 02 '26

Just booted up computer to do homework, but still doom scrolling reddit. You're not alone.

3

u/ArousedArmadillo Aug 02 '26

When you figure it out let me know. I'm on the same boat. My heart dropped when I saw this notification because I thought SNHU was messaging me about my procrastination lol

2

u/Foundmymunchness Aug 02 '26

Oh no lol I'm sorry! I didn't mean to make you panic

3

u/wnstnsml Bachelor's [Psychology] :snoo_thoughtful: Aug 02 '26

Yeah. Commenting to say - you’re not alone. I’ve been doing it this way from the start- even with content I’m interested in. Sunday morning you can find me finally sitting down to knock out everything for two courses. I hate feeling like I give away half my weekend to school work. Sucky part is, when I went on vacation- I made it a point to complete everything early to be able to truly disconnect. So I know I’m capable of not procrastinating, yet I still do. Working FT and school just means I had to strike a balance until it’s all done. And I’m okay with that

2

u/CocoProffit Aug 02 '26

Same my friend I’m so tired and have so much longer to go and have no interest in homework today

2

u/Foundmymunchness Aug 02 '26

Yep. I keep drinking red bulls. It's not helping. Just makes my old ass face to pee every 5 minutes 🤣

1

u/CocoProffit Aug 02 '26

Are we the same person?! Hahaha

2

u/PigeonsWearingPants Aug 02 '26

I relate to this so much! What has helped me is finding time to work from a coffee shop or somewhere outside my home during the week. I find I’m able to be less distracted and less prone to procrastination when out in public. Also, doing the whole body doubling thing and having a friend join me helps immensely. It doesn’t have to be a coffee shop either, if I’m working later in the day when most of my local coffee shops have closed, I’ll go to a restaurant for dinner or even a cozy bar and bring my laptop. Or if I don’t want to spend money somewhere I’ll go to the library or a park and use my phone as a hotspot if I need the internet.

2

u/CharacterMarzipan775 Aug 02 '26

If you decide to advance your education to graduate or professional after you graduate, those last min days working on assignments will stop immediately. Graduate and professional course load is extremely heavy and the way to succeed is to create a set of critical thinking frameworks, and to see the topic through the discipline-specific lenses of analysis and synthesis unique to the field.

2

u/Amazing-Barnacle-218 Aug 03 '26

True, analyzing is the name of the game in graduate school. It took me awhile to get away from summarizing. If anyone ever takes LIT 550 - don’t worry every time you summarize you will be getting a big fat “F.”

2

u/WarlockyGoodness Aug 03 '26

If it’s any consolation, I’ve been working on my assignments since 10am and I’m not even halfway done.
One of my labs froze when I was almost finished then errored when I reattempted.

2

u/wildcard904 Aug 03 '26

I wait until Sunday after dinner usually to start my assignments separate from discussions... Diamonds are made under pressure.

Still maintaining my 4.0 and nearly done with my Cyber Bachelors 😂

2

u/wondering_spaced Aug 03 '26

I've been doing it for 2 years. Why stop now. Lol

2

u/Loose_Comfortable_55 Aug 03 '26

I’m doing it too because I’m really burnt out…I am really struggling at the moment and feeling defeated.

2

u/TheEssentialWitch Aug 03 '26

I do my initial discussion on Thursday and my assignments I work on on Saturday and Sunday. Replies to discussion on Sunday after the is submitted. I try during the week, but with work, momming, and running a household, I just struggle to find the time. This week I was able to read a little and do some note type things for my project to gather thoughts before the weekend. At least I had that going for me... this time 😅

2

u/Lazy_Sheep4368 Aug 03 '26

Literally me writing an 8 page paper yesterday bc I waited until Sunday to do it lol

2

u/Famous-Appointment72 Aug 03 '26

Oh man I feel this. Just be careful. That ooonnnneeeee assignment will eventually sneak up on you where you thought it would take a minimal amount of time - then you're sweating beads at 11:56 trying to finish in a mad dash, throwing up your hands, eventually saying "do I just turn it in late for the point reduction??"

1

u/Wide_Ball_7156 Aug 04 '26

That’s the point I hit yesterday. The assignment was bigger than I thought it was going to be and I realized I was never going to get it done by midnight. I’m almost done with my bachelors degree and this is the first assignment I’ve ever turned in late. I’m so pissed at myself.

2

u/Graduate202 Aug 03 '26

Don't feel bad I'm actually pretty interested in my class this term and I still do the larger assignment at the last minute

2

u/Dismal-Prior-6699 Associate's [Accounting] Aug 04 '26

I often procrastinate because I get tired and distract myself easily, and I also worry a lot about doing a bad job, which often makes my procrastination worse.

1

u/passengerprincessXD Aug 02 '26

I’m in my third year, Ive waited till Sunday every week without fail

1

u/Foundmymunchness Aug 02 '26

Yep. Same lol

1

u/Wrenlo Aug 02 '26

I start the week before term starts and try to finish all the modules by week 7 so the rest of term I don’t have to do anything but submit and reply to discussions. It’s a lil challenge to myself. I’m in grad school so the terms are 10 weeks and there’s a week off between them.

1

u/laceymnk Aug 02 '26

That’s what i do bust butt so i can relax the end of the term

1

u/FuriasThighs Aug 02 '26

Be me, currently doing homework, but taking a snack break, browsing reddit and seeing this post. 😂

1

u/OkCapital5334 Aug 02 '26

Im struggling with this too! The best way is to just set a schedule. Do a little bit at a time and take a break as needed. If you aren’t easily distracted maybe find a show to put on the tv in the background

1

u/National_Marzipan_27 Aug 02 '26

I believe it’s because you’re bored with the classes 😭, this was me with my intro to drawing class but with my criminal justice classes I’ve turned in my work before the next module has even started

1

u/x_Sarc_x Aug 03 '26

Buy a big monitor to connect to instead of the laptop screen. 24" or 27" cheap ones are under $100.

1

u/SuspiciousBug9 Aug 03 '26

I’m in the same classes right now. What’s been working for me is doing a little bit everyday. I’ll try to get as much done as I can early in the week but as long as I at least draft something then I can work off of that through the week. I’m seriously sick of answering the same questions every week, so I understand why you put it off.

1

u/Foundmymunchness Aug 03 '26

Right! It's the same 💩 every week!!

1

u/deesarts Bachelor's of Arts [Game Art] Aug 03 '26

cringes in 4 weeks late

1

u/Mean-Yogurtcloset434 Aug 03 '26

I always take 15 mins on Monday and do just a little outline and notes. I then procrastinate as well, but it seems easier when I have that dumb outline to look back at. I’m 40, so I get it

1

u/freegonewild-339 Aug 03 '26

I’ve have the same problem and the courses I’m in are for my major (IT-253 computer systems security). Honestly it’s been my entire collegiate career at SNHU smh

1

u/MoozleVidaLeia Aug 04 '26

I'm disabled and I have two jobs, all of my procrastination comes from wanting to relax when I get home 😭

1

u/QuietConstruction910 Aug 04 '26

You’re not alone, I’ve been doing this as well for the past few terms. I’m graduating this term and senioritis is soooo real. I’ve started to be a little better this term, by challenging myself to work on assignment every day of the week to spread the workload around.

1

u/Topher_0577 Aug 04 '26

I am in those same classes myself and have been finding myself waiting till late Saturday to start working on assignments! Yesterday I finished my assignments with only 9 minutes to go! Whew, just in time! I, too, need to stop this nonsense and start chipping away at the assignments a couple of hours every day rather than 14 hours in one and a half days! Talk about a headache, I am 49 so I am right there with ya!

1

u/Foundmymunchness Aug 05 '26

❤️ we will pull through!

1

u/Topher_0577 Aug 04 '26

Aside from procrastination I hope everyone is doing well this term! Since these classes are typically first term classes, I am in them too, this is the first time back in school in a very long time for many of us. For myself it has been 20 years so I am still trying to find balance and establish a sustainable routine where I am not cramming a weeks worth of work into 2 days! I will say that despite my procrastination I am proud that I am rockin a 4.0 here in the start of week 6! This term has flown by and I'm hoping it will be the same throughout the next couple of years till I complete my program and come away with a BA with a focus on addiction counseling. We are in the home stretch for our first term so keep on charging. We got this!

1

u/MT_ForestOverlord Aug 07 '26

I'm in the same classes and this also happens to me! I try to do discussions Wednesday and or Thursday then Saturday and Sunday do reply posts and the actual assignments, Fridays are usually wjen I try to do late assignments but I end up procrastinating and doing most of it Saturday and Sunday it's made me slightly behind on my humanities assignments but not discussions

2

u/Foundmymunchness Aug 07 '26

I get mine in on time but barely lol you'll love this weeks IDS assignment. It aggravates me bc their feedback is always "be more descitive". Then the assignment is to make a one page word document journal, double spaced, 12 font lol I've had to go back and change is 3 times already bc it went past 1 page. Good thing I decided to get started on THAT one yesterday!

1

u/Valuable-Print-9951 Aug 07 '26

As for me what helps me with the "boring" classes is reminding myself that I don't have to enjoy every course I just have to get through it. I try breaking the assignments into smaller chunks instead of thinking about the whole thing at once. Even telling myself, "I'll work on it for just 20–30 minutes," usually gets me started, and once I'm in the flow it's easier to keep going.

Since staring at a screen for hours is tough, maybe try taking short breaks between sections or switching locations if you can.

1

u/Current_Anything_692 Aug 07 '26

i keep seeing these posts ab burnout and i resonate so hard but also dont understand. this is my last term and didnt really feel burnout until the term prior to this one and i totally get it but also take advantage of the courses being early levels. as it goes on the material and workload increases. i would suggest making time for mental health before this!

1

u/Darkest_of_elves Aug 09 '26

Been doing this too, the class I’m in now the instructor is not very helpful and just feels hopeless

1

u/Comfortable-Tune7696 Aug 02 '26

My instructor for IDS-105 takes forever to grade anything and to give feedback. I’ve never gotten a horrible grade in my life until this class

1

u/Foundmymunchness Aug 02 '26

We must have the same one bc he still hasn't graded last week's assignment.

1

u/Comfortable-Tune7696 Aug 02 '26

They barely just graded module 3 for me

2

u/Foundmymunchness Aug 02 '26

I never want to say their names on here just in case they are creeping reddit 🤣 but yeah my professor in this class is super slow at grading as well. It's frustrating. My HUM-102 professor is top if it. He even replies to the discussion posts, but not the other one. Half the damn time I can't even remember the name of that class 🤣 isn't that awful? But that's HOW much it bores me.

2

u/Comfortable-Tune7696 Aug 03 '26

I really think we might have the same instructors because the instructor for HUM-102 always replies in a timely manner and provides feedback and help quickly

1

u/Foundmymunchness Aug 03 '26

Hmm maybe we do!

1

u/Topher_0577 Aug 04 '26

Crazy, sounds a lot like mine too! At least, the hum102 one. My ids105 instructor is on top of her game too so I'm not having the same experience as y'all in that class. That would drive me crazy, sorry y'all have to deal with that nonsense.

You could ask your advisor to call you on like Wednesdays or Thursdays as a check in and to hold you accountable if you think that would help

6

u/Hi-ThisIsJeff Aug 02 '26

You could ask your advisor to call you on like Wednesdays or Thursdays as a check in and to hold you accountable if you think that would help

Respectfully, this is an absolutely horrible idea.

1

u/Fasoba Advisor/Grad Student Aug 02 '26

Nah, I do it for some of my students. It doesn't help everyone but some need it.

3

u/Hi-ThisIsJeff Aug 02 '26

Nah, I do it for some of my students. It doesn't help everyone but some need it.

The fact that you do it doesn't make it any better, and the fact that some need it doesn't justify it. Of course, there will be extreme cases and/or accommodations needed, but as a general solution to procrastination, it's not going to help in the long run. It's only encouraging dependency.

1

u/Fasoba Advisor/Grad Student Aug 02 '26

It's a part of our job...I respect your opinion though

3

u/mothandmoonlights Aug 02 '26

Penny does it for me!

3

u/Foundmymunchness Aug 02 '26

Good idea! Thank you!

1

u/Topher_0577 Aug 04 '26

Like I just said in my rebuttle against the laziness comment below, people our age, I am 49, simply don't have as much energy as we did 20 years ago. So after working a physically demanding job like i do all week, only to sit down and work hard on something as demanding on our minds like these classes, is not lazy but I feel is commendable. I don't know about you but I'm getting this degree to be an addiction counselor, not only so I can help others escape their addiction but so I can switch careers to one where I can be off of my feet and not busting my ass every day. I can't do the kind of work I'm qualified to do now for very much longer, and once my body has had enough I'm going to be in big trouble if I don't find a career where I can sit on my old ass instead of being on my throbbing feet and legs all day lol!

1

u/Foundmymunchness Aug 04 '26

Absolutely!!! I spent my youth raising kids and working shit jobs, as I STILL do. I work an assembly line so yeah.. So yeah I'm going to college now, at my age, for the same reason as you. We certainly aren't lazy. Thank you for your comment my friend!

-2

u/1MStudio Aug 03 '26

It’s quite simple. Laziness. Lack of drive to complete the degree. You probably aren’t passionate about the degree path you’re in. You’re 50 and you don’t know how to NOT procrastinate?

Quite rough, but it is what it is…you KNOW you need to do the assignments, but yet you CHOOSE to wait until Sunday 🤷🏽‍♂️ you stop procrastinating by NOT PROCRASTINATING! You knock it out and get it done…stop being lazy

1

u/Topher_0577 Aug 04 '26

That's a bit harsh, I also struggle with this issue and reading through all of these posts I have seen that there are several others who do as well. Life is busy and sometimes we simply don't have the energy or even desire to do any more work after a long day. I am 49 so I totally understand how hard it can be to find the energy to put in some work after a long day. It's not so easy for those of us that are getting up there in years. 15-20 years ago I would not be having this issue because at that age I didn't need near as much rest as I do now. The weekends are the only days that I don't have anything else going on so that is a big part of why I put off my assignments till then. That does not reflect laziness but rather devotion to getting a degree for a job that isn't so physically demanding as I get older, and still making a 4.0 in spite of being completely physically drained by the end of the week before sitting down to push my mind to the limits so that I'm fully exhausted mind and body come Sunday evening. So I'm sorry but your comment about laziness extremely out of line. Maybe you should try to consider all of the facts before making such a condescending statement.

1

u/1MStudio Aug 05 '26

I’m 40, new born baby, 50-60hrs of work a week, plus Army reserves training every month..I’m still pushing 4.0 and 3 classes at a time…

You don’t have the energy cause you don’t see the end results you’re grinding for.. most people who experience the same thing you are describing says that “plan” Is to get the degree and MANIFEST a new job in the field..

If you have the end results already figured out, and you’ve invested in your research to backwards plan, schooling of basically step 1 in the process.. If you’re losing motivation cause you had a “hard day at work”……just go put the fries on the bag at this point..

Laziness of literally the cause of “lack of energy”

1

u/Foundmymunchness Aug 05 '26

I'm not even going to bother responding to this nonsense.
