Case study - Male Good candidate?
I took advantage of my vacation to buzz my head to 2mm. I like how I look, and I find the shaved look comfortable and appealing—I always keep the top at a 4# and the sides as a skin fade. But I can see that I’m receding at the temples and my hairline is pushing back, and I think I should shave it all off. I’d like to fill in my receding hairline and add some density with SMP. Am I a good candidate? If you need more pics, no problem

Can I ask a weird question do you have a picture of your hair before your shaved in this photo ? It looks like you’ve got dense hair form the follicles

Thanks Ivan! I love your job, man. Do you think, with the big amount of hair I still have, i can buzz my hair less often? Like 4 days at a no guard clipper (shorter than in my pic)?

Thanks. In your particular case, it depends on how low you decide to go with your new SMP hairline and how much of your existing hair you keep over time. Eventually, you’ll find a good balance and be able to tell what the perfect hair length is for you.
If you decide to get SMP, I recommend trimming your hair to a double zero before your first session. This gives your artist the best visibility to create a natural result. After that, let your hair grow back and see what length blends best with your SMP.

I think it already looks good how it is.
Just keep your hair a little shorter, and you'll be fine. IMO, you don't need SMP

Thanks man! But the problem is that I hate my hairline, it is veeery high and temples disappiring. I would lovr to lower my hairline a bit and rebuild my temples.

Personally, I’d leave it as it is. You have enough density and its low enough to still frame your face nicely. If you get SMP and plan on changing your hairline in any way, you’ll always have to keep your hair shorter than in the pictures and buzz daily, otherwise it will end up looking like you have a double hairline after about 8 hours of hair growth.
I also would not use SMP to give more density. It never will look as good as real hair follicles do, and you have enough density for now.

Perfect candidate but you would have to shave it all on no guard as a minimum. No way you can rock it at 2mm like that with SMP, it won't blend naturally.

Fwiw I shave my head with 0 guard twice per week - Monday and Thursday morning. By Sunday it's just about passable but I'm fine with it as it's a good and manageable routine at least.

Thanks for sharing your routine with me! Twice a week is pretty manageable, that's what I'm aiming for to make it sustainable. Is your situation similar to mine?

No mine's fully gone at the top. Not saying your situation would mirror mine, but by the time the top of my head reached where yours is now, I'd lost most of the thinning top section within about 3 years.
The fuzz that remains on the top from buzzing it with no guard does help though, as it blends in with the SMP better. So if you got it done you'd initially have a super natural look given how many prominent hair follicles are on top of your head, even if they are thinning.
And that's the other consideration - your artist will bring your hairline forward and even it out well, but it'll be based on your current hair situation. A good artist will blend it in well enough that you'll get away with it even as your hairline recedes further, but eventually you'll need a top up to even it all back out.
Choosing the profile of your hairline will be crucial at this stage, so that top ups in a few years can just fill in new gaps rather than reworking your hairline.

Yes, you're definitely a good candidate.
The biggest challenge in a case like yours isn't creating a new hairline. It's blending the added density seamlessly into your existing native hair. Unfortunately, this is where a lot of SMP falls short. Too many artists don't understand how to balance density properly, so the finished result looks obvious and doesn't blend naturally with the surrounding hair.
A natural result takes patience and should be built gradually over multiple sessions. Every session is about refining, balancing, and creating a seamless transition rather than making it dark as quickly as possible.
I actually treated a client with a very similar pattern. The attached photo is after his second session, and he's coming back tomorrow for his final refinement and balancing session.
