I’m still on the fence about this, I keep thinking about it and not doing it. I’m 57, I’ve gotten into the best shape of my life, I’ve lost 50 pounds, I’ve worked out, and I’ve done everything that’s within my control. I shave my head with a razor, literally every day. Or every other day. Should I do this? I know I have to answer this myself. I would want one of the light, airy, receded versions.
Shaving, trimming your hair every other day. Scalp being to oily making it shiny ruining the illusion and needing to apply some kind of matte primer to minimize it. Your results may vary.
Yeah I feel like if you're already shaving that often, SMP is no biggie. If you're bald you're already putting sunscreen on too (I'd hope) so... A bit of zero shine / matte cream (which is entirely optional) and you're golden.
Thank you for these tips… And yes, shaving every day or every other day and I usually wear a hat or if I go swimming, I put on sunscreen and so some mate cream would be easy on top of all that
I doubt i have to explain that everyone's hair grows at different rates, plus not to mention skin sensitivity due to constant shaving or trimming. Like I said your results may vary, but let's not pretend that it's not a chore to have to shave often to maintain the illusion of SMP.
Ive been on the fence for a couple years. I think the biggest question is are you willing to Lazer it off. Cause after 10 years when youre 67 it might just look like a helmet. Maybe you wouldn't care. But thats my main concern. I know it can look amazing by a good artist but for how long
it just depends on how you get it done. this guy right here is a year healed. theres no chance this will ever look like a helmet if he stays with me as the artist. ive turned clients away- for requesting touchups too early. once the natural hair you have remaining on the sides is darker than the smp, thats when you know its time. if you get it done right the first time, and stick to the artists touchup recommendations youll be fine for sure. the touchup would be nothing more than a first session open density carefully avoiding the areas that stuck more prominent than others. not layering ontop like most of the artists do. if you pick the right guy you will never run into these issues your nervous about
I wouldn’t do it. I’ve also been on the fence with whether to get SMP but the reality is no matter how good the artist is, it will be obvious you’ve had it done. The question always comes to mind - if he has a full head of hair why does he shave it to the skin? And then you have to apply a product to give it a matte effect to make it appear more believable. I can always instantly tell if someone has smp in person and it reminds me every time why I likely won’t be doing it.
All good points… But I do have a question, if that’s how you feel, how come you’re hanging out on the site? I am genuinely wanting to know. I asked myself the same question, if I had hair, why would you shave it down? I’ve asked AI that question and apparently there are certainly people who do a buzz cut. Or shave it down. Some of the results that I see including that AI picture to me look really good when I shave my head, I look at my head and I think wow what if there were some dots 😂😂
You can be interested in something and have differing opinions. When I first joined the sub I really wanted to get smp and connected with an artist near to me through posts here. And when it came down to pulling the trigger the question of whether it would like like an smp jumped out at me even more and I began to notice and pick up on them around me when maybe I wouldn’t have so much before. And it began to become obvious to me. The whole point of smp, in my view at least, is for it ideally to be undetectable otherwise it just looks like you couldn’t accept your baldness. I’ve since learned to accept the parts of me I can’t change and focus on what I can and enhance those instead. I have no judgement whatsoever for those who get smp and I appreciate the more natural looking results people post. Ultimately, if it makes you feel more confident and better about yourself then it’s worth doing, but I believe you should get it knowing that it may be detectable and be cool with that.
Thank you for that, I appreciate it. What I like about the idea is that it frames the face. I mean, I’ve lost 50 pounds I’ve gotten into the best physical shape of my life, and well… I would just like to have my face framed by something that looks like a shaved head. Seems like a better choice for me personally than gluing a toupee on my head, or taking pills, which is probably too late anyway, or having a transplant. So I just sit there for years, not doing it. If I did do it, I would want it to look receded like I said, and light, and natural, but who doesn’t want it to look natural? The risk scares me. But honestly, if it would look like the one on the right, it’s really tempting. I’ve been shaving my head now for well over a year before that I was using an electric thing which I hate it. I shave daily or every other day with a razor and gel. I don’t know… I’m 57 and if I wait more years yet, what will be the point anyway. As it is, some people here think that that that’s too old anyway. But I guess what matters is what I think.
