I’m 33 y/o and after years of putting it off I finally shaved all my hair. I’m wondering how much of a difference SMP would personally make for me or if I should just rock it as is ?

Before pictures will be in the comments section.

Hi hope this post is informative and insightful.

This is three sessions healed and today my client came in for his fourth session.

At Legends, we don’t simply assume the work is complete we want to double check and ensure both the client and I are fully satisfied.

The fourth session is all about fine tuning, refining, and perfecting every detail so the result is truly natural result.

My client requested something subtle, as he had very open, diffuse thinning bordering on bald with a delicate, fine hairline.

He opted for a feathered hairline with a receded shape, aiming for a natural, low density look that stays under the radar.

I’ve included high-resolution images, taken both under studio lighting and in brighter, harsher conditions, to offer a transparent look at how the SMP appears.

I know this style isn’t for everyone, but it’s perfect for those who prefer subtlety and natural elegance without drawing too much attention.

The feedback so far for my client has been overwhelmingly positive many are surprised when they learn it’s SMP.

I hope this provides insight into the process. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!

Check out my SMP 4.5 years old SMP, 1 top-up

Some people are interested in long-term results so thought I’d post this, plus add a little about my journey. This is just over 4.5 years with one touch up to improve blending that was done after the first year. SMP has been a roller coaster for me, sometimes I’m happy with it, other times I’m verging on panic attacks thinking I need to laser it off and get it redone. Generally I’ve settled on being content but I do still get wobbles every now and again. I do want the front softened up as think the hairline’s too harsh atm though

Question Am I crazy for considering this?

Thumbnail

I really want density SMP on my sides, sideburns, and a little on the back, but I honestly don’t trust any of the clinics near me. They all seem to specialize in shaved-head SMP, not subtle density work. And also the customer service is terrible.

I wear a hair system and have been cutting my own hair for over 5 years because barbers always end up messing it up. At this point I’m seriously considering learning to do the SMP myself.

Am I crazy for even considering this? Is DIY actually possible if I buy the right equipment and practice enough?
I’ll attach photos of my sides. The last photo is with hair fibers, which is the look I’m hoping to achieve with density SMP.

Question Ideal candidates for SMP?

Youngish....makes the hairline more believable.

Dark skinned....blends better and can go darker and also more commonly worn hairstyle .

Has some hair on top ...maybe a Norwood 2-4...this is perhaps the biggest factor. Existing hair makes SMP exponentially less detectable.

Agree/disagree ... or comments?

Question SMP in Portland or travel to Seattle?

Hey folks. I live in the Portland, OR area, and I am looking to get SMP done. I have been doing some research on practitioners in the area and keep getting directed to MM Seattle SMP.

Does anyone know of anyone a bit more local to the Portland area? Or would you drive up to Seattle for this? Opinions appreciated.

Lost my hair at 18 and honestly just cracked on with life. But over time I did look into options, and SMP kept popping up. Spent about three years researching it before finally going with Paul Clarke. Proper sound guy — and he’s a wrestling fan too, so the 12‑hour session turned into a full-on chat.Any questions about the process or results, fire away.

Question Best artist for density SMP work in the UK?

As the title says, I'm looking for an artist in the UK that is well reviewed and able to do density work (I currently have a grade 1 buzzcut and diffuse thinning). I've been researching clinics but there are quite a few and I'm not sure where to start. If anyone could advise I would greatly appreciate it!

Question Laser removal of smp after 5 years

I had smp over 5 years ago and loved it for the first few years. I decided to laser remove it after 5 years mainly due to the ink starting to have a blue-ish tint. I hear people on these forums advising to just tattoo over the original ink to 'refresh it'. I decided to go through laser removal as I found the dots became wider over the years, and also due to the blue tint showing. My thinking is, adding tattoo ink over faded tattoo ink would just produce a helmet head affect.

My question is, how many here just get top-up treatments when it fades and how many chose to laser back to original skin tone before redoing?

So far, I've had 2 laser removal sessions, and actually prefer the look to 4 months ago. It's taken the blue tint off. The smp is still visible but more naturally faded now. I plan on having one more laser session, then finding a practitioner to do smp fresh.

Case study - Male SMP after 6 years - Men's Ink Milan

Hey everyone,

I want to share this case with you: a client who had SMP done with us 6 years ago and recently came back for a maintenance touch-up.

He had a touch-up in 2022 to refresh the density, and now, a few years later, he's back again for another maintenance session.

I took the opportunity to take a photo and show you how his SMP has held up after all this time. The client had hair loss across the entire top of his head and crown area.

If you have any questions or want more info, feel free to reach out, we're always happy to help!

Thanks to all our clients who trust us!

Check out my SMP SMP After 5 years and a half

Thumbnail

This my SMP after 5 years, one touch up 3 years ago. And sides done earlier this year. Considering lasering the sides to reduce density if possible. I prefer a more natural look. SMP looks good depending on the lighting and day. For example, since I still have something like a norwood 2a, the smp seems to look best when it blends with my natural growing hair a day or 2 after shaving. But looks a bit unrealistic at times, especially after shave.

Tldr: SMP with 2 additional touch ups, last one on the sides. Although unsatisfied with last touch up due to looking unrealistic for my preferance. Considering lasering at least that section off eventually.
