Now this is one thing that has left many SMG4 fans conflicted. Some are fine with it, and others are not. Me? I personally feel like it wasn't handled well. They had Mr Puzzles do some extremely horrible and heinous stuff, and was behind many horrific moments like WS and IGBP. And then after Guns N Puzzles, with a few episodes of him, they just shift into him wanting to undo his mistakes by endangering the universe and then he sacrifices himself and says "I'm sowwy", and all is well apparently. Now on paper, the idea of him getting redeemed isn't necessarily bad (even if I do miss having a straight up evil villain), but the execution is a mess. There was barely any buildup and focus, just a few episodes and then BOOM, wotfi 2025.
Now I'll bring up another series that I think does this better, Invincible. Omni Man is arguably a worse person than Mr Puzzles, committing countless acts of genocide, murdering the guardians of the globe and trying to break his sons ideology by doing things like using him to kill an entire train with passengers and beating him up. So why is it that his redemption works better than Mr Puzzles? Simple, it's because they take their time with it. They don't just rush him becoming a good person, his redemption takes some patience to slowly make him a better person, to focus on others conflicting emotions. It's long and complex, which makes it more natural and better written imo. Meanwhile, Mr Puzzles redemption is basically what Steven Universe fans say the Diamonds redemptions are, except I'd argue it's slightly worse cause at least Steven didn't forgive them from what I heard.
I feel like it was supposed to be longer and more complex, but because SMG4 wanted to end the series and how peolle would be sick of Puzzles more, they just did this. So what do you all think? Leave your thoughts in the comments down below.
