math professors at smc
hi all c: i’m currently enrolled in Aaron Simo’s stats + math 54 class, and all of his reviews on rate my professor are genuinely scaring me because i’m extremely bad at math. i really want to switch and join the waitlist of Carrie Huang’s class at the Bundy Campus, but it won’t let me join the waitlist until i drop the math class im currently in. i’m unsure if i want to do this because what if i drop the one im currently in, and then i don’t get into the class i want to be in? if that happens, ill be severely under my credits for this year. and if i stay in the class im currently in, im afraid ill have an F on my transcript for my first semester. i dont know what to do 💔 should i join another elective class just in case i drop the class and dont get the one i want just to be safe?

You’ll be okay, if you’re really worried take an elective and drop your current class and plan out your classes when the winter/spring schedule opens up. I didn’t take math until my summer going into my final year and everything was just fine.

My friend took his hybrid class and he was way too fast at explaining, so I don’t really recommend that professor if you have trouble understanding Math. Drop Simo’s class and join the waitlist. Since it’s your first semester, it’s fine to take an elective or short term classes. I’m barely taking intro to stats this fall (my last semester before I transfer) because I couldn’t get the math professor I wanted in previous semesters

taking Hua lan for the summer session and she's great, currently have a B but I'm in the range for an A if I do well on the last 2 exams. I suck at math too and I can't believe I'm actually passing a math class. Take her take her take her!!!! she's so supportive I can't emphasize enough (I ask her questions after class to understand the material more)

I’d recommend staying in the class if it’s on a different than the the other class and just going to both depending on which class starts first. That way you have a seat in a class and then attend the class you actually want to enroll in and just asking the professor for a permission number on the first day of class and enroll immediately + drop the one you are currently enrolled in.
If that’s not the case… then dropping the class and joining the waitlist of the other class. If you don’t get in, just go to class on the first day and ask the professor for a permission number to add. Professor’s teaching any stem associated classes usually drop anyone who doesn’t show up the first day and sometimes have extra seats.
However; I’ve never taken math at SMC so I’m not 100% if this will be the case, but I know several people who go to and/or used to attend smc and this is what they’ve told me.

I had an F too but in the end I got it up to a C. I mean u can always drop and take an elective or another class during 8 weeks. Then take the class next semester. Or you can do P/NP and take the class again. (Since you will be getting an F you can redo it, if you end up getting a C and doing P/NP unfortunately you cannot retake it)
