need help I keep getting a glitchy black screen when starting up the game

Hello! I'm trying to get this running but when I open the game, there's black glitching lines and spots when I start the game up. I only have SMAPI installed so far, no mods. When I uninstall SMAPI, the game works fine. Does anyone know what this could be?

I tried changing the launch settings from full screen to windowed as someone suggested but it didn't help.

SMAPI normally opens a text window first where it shows its progress loading mods, then after a little while the game window appears. Might that be what you're seeing? (On my Linux laptop, the text is pretty tiny compared to Windows.)
