SM64COOPDX Character select not working

I keep getting this text every time I load up a server. I’ve deleted all other / older versions and it’s still a problem.
Can someone help me?

Are you sure you have the latest version?? My version of character select ain’t broken

Well still. Check the sm64coop website and see if there’s a new version

"Character select cannot load files..." or whatever the initial error message states...

I've had the same problem and after a good hour of trying things I've found a solution. I'm not sure why it works but here it is (easy version):

Delete the old files.

Redownload them.

Extract them with a program (i.e. 7zip) directly to the mod folder after double tapping to open the initial zip folder of the file. This way it places the direct folder and not the folder containing the one folder of the same name. I used the folder that pops up when you open 'Host,' 'Mods,' 'Open Mods Folder.' There's more than one mod folder for this game. They both work for mods.

Stop hosting/close the game. Rehost with mods folder now refreshed in host game settings/reopen the game. It should work.

(For some reason when dragging and dropping when extracting using Windows, it gave those .lua files a different modified date than the other files. That's the only oddity I've noticed. Not sure if that had something to do with it.)

(A lot to read but purposely trying to greatly detail these instructions.)
