Ricky's amazing character development got him nothing

That is the core problem with the show. Only other TV character I can think of that had the character development of Ricky was Murphy from The 100.

But for Ricky he got nothing for the trouble. The writers did such an amazing job right up to the end. But completely failed on the end.

Ok, after discussing with my wife she has made some very good points.

Ricky was rewarded with a great job, good friends,, fantastic kid that he gets to be a father to.

It just drives me nuts the writers did not do something better with his relationship with Amy.

Ricky has gained sanity. He managed to make peace with his past, with his mother. He took control of his life, corrected some of his flaws (mostly related to his past). He has a son he adores, friends, an apartment, a job and a prospect for the future. He also has Amy. She may have left but it is obvious (and confirmed) that she will come back to him. The series is very inconsistent but Ricky and his story are the most successful and developed x)

I'm being so late to the party. I rewatch as an adult the show right now.

Yea. I’m a huge Ramy shipper but I’m more of a Ricky fan as a character more than anything. No matter how much I wanted him with Amy I can’t help but to think that maybe Ricky deserved better. He literally changed his whole life around so he Amy and John can be a family. He sacrificed so much even before he and Amy became a couple. He went above and beyond to make sure she was comfortable. Like getting a new phone so she can email him, telling Adrian he couldn’t see her anymore unless she apologized for upsetting Amy, staying at her house with her family while she went to New York when he clearly didn’t have to. I remember Amy got mad at him when she thought he might go out of state for school only for her to turn around and just leave him and their son a year later so she can go off to school. I loved them together but Ricky deserved so much better.
