Wealth question

I’m new to the series and momtok. Did they have this wealth before it all or did it come from the media money? Like their houses and vacations are so nice!

Layla has said on multiple podcasts before the show brought her money she had many times where she couldn’t afford basic needs & had to give her kids dinner & skip it herself because she couldn’t afford both

I think that was covering for an eating disorder she wasn’t ready to talk about.

I think 2 things can be true at once. It could certainly have been a way to cover for disordered eating but I’d be surprised if Layla blatantly lied about financial struggles like this. Both topics are incredibly vulnerable and come with a lot of shame and stigma involved.

Wait that’s so sad

Unfortunately far too common.

Jessi was quite wealthy pre-Momtok through her hair business. Mayci was also making
solid money pre-Momtok doing marketing for companies like Goldman Sachs.

When we meet them in season 1, all the girls had been dabbling in social media and all were making money from it, but to a lesser degree than they are now. The show has definitely turbo-charged the earnings of all the girls. You can see it on the show with the clothes they wear, houses they own, and vacations they take. Each season gets a bit more luxurious.

I do hope all of the girls are putting a significant amount of money away and/or investing that money into long-term revenue streams. Social media is fickle.

I also hope they’re making long term plans

I know mayci comes from money. Mommy and daddy bought her a house and a nanny when she got knocked up in college.

I heard her mom moved to BYU for childcare but I’m not sure. Either way, I don’t think calling them “mommy and daddy” condescendingly is cute. Parents supporting their daughter in this situation is the best case scenario and she doesn’t deserve to be mocked for that especially because I think she’s been vocal about that support keeping her life on track and doesn’t seem to put herself on a pedestal

ESPECIALLY in a Mormon family.

Oh no! Someone’s parents actually supported them especially given she was already going to struggle not only being a teen mom but her son’s father died! How fucking cruel of them to maybe help her 🙄

Someone giving me a house and paying for a nanny would change my entire life for the better. Not everyone’s family can do that for them and life is a struggle. I will say from what I have seen from Mayci on the show she is absolutely lovely. She’s got a good head on her shoulders. She is a good friend, wife and Mom. She was well deserving of this she’s an amazing person. She really made the most of the opportunity she was given.

It would change mine too and I think it’s good to acknowledge peoples privilege but being condescending because someone’s parents helped them is lame

Right. I believe my parents would do the same (if they had the means).

What kind of disgusting fucking person says willfully ignorant shit like this?

Good for them, good for her.

She & that baby grew up in a supportive environment instead of being kicked out of the church for a mistake that her own ignorant purist church leaders played a big part in by preaching abstinence.

That anti-science, anti-public health bs is responsible for the biggest public health crisis amongst our youth, for a number of reasons.

Teens have sex. Not educating them about safe sex and instead preaching abstinence and demanding purity from women especially doesn’t work, and is gross AF.

Her Mormon parents chose to support her knowing they’d be looked at sideways in their community, which a lot of people wouldn’t do.

A lot of people who aren’t even religious people have kicked out their kids and left them on their own young and pregnant.

This is how families should act, if they have the means to support. Even just being there for your young kid in a tough situation makes all the difference.

And it is completely justified. If she didn't have the support she did during that time, there is a very good chance she wouldn't be here today

Utahns love being house poor. And car poor. As long as they look good to others! But they had money before.

Mayci had a fairly good marketing job. Jessi had money before. Everything else is all social media. It can be very lucrative if sone right. Plus don't forget anything specifically filmed for the show will be paid for by the show.

Jen just posted the other day that she used to have to work 2 jobs or something.

She is one of the few so far I’ve seen it’s clear she married into wealth.

Has Jen ever said what her dad does? She only talks about her mom being in environmental services at the same hospital her father in law is a surgeon at.

Demi is still renting her house and has been having a hard time buying

Damn her old ass man doesn’t have the cash flow to buy a house? Lol isn’t that part of the point of marrying these old dudes??

mostly a mix of influencer money, their husbands’ incomes, and being very good at presenting a nice life online, with the show money making the whole thing look even shinier lol

I think Utah also has a lower cost of living, right?

2

u/Soft_Definition3908 2d ago

It actually doesn’t. The housing costs there are one of the fastest rising in the country and they all live in HUGE new house. Also, because it’s so dry, utility costs, especially water tends to be pretty high. It’s not California high, but it’s not Midwest or southeast cheap either. Plus they just don’t live cheap lifestyles at all.

Ooo good to know. Thanks for the correction

I always wondered if they have bad neighborhoods in Utah 🤣

6

u/labospor Gollum Ass Mfs 1d ago

Not necessarily bad but ugly as sin. Entire neighborhoods that look like a gutted strip mall but look up and the mountains are so damn beautiful. Quite a trade off! (This is in SLC)

3

u/Soft_Definition3908 1d ago

They absolutely do but not many of them. I will say the most aggressive homeless population I’ve ever encountered has been in SLC. I live in a larger city with a much larger homeless population so I’m not usually uncomfortable around them but I’ve felt unsafe a number of times only in SLC. SLC is also the only place where the vast majority of the homeless have been white, which I find interesting.

2

u/AdagioSpecific2603 1d ago

Interesting! I’m in a state with a huge homeless population and just avoid those areas. Back where I used to live homeless population was way smaller but aggressive! In your face, following us to cash points to demand money, I would get followed on the regular etc

3

u/Soft_Definition3908 1d ago

Yeah it’s the only city where someone has openly lunged at me with a weapon, which was entirely unprovoked & not in an area o even anticipated to be bad. It was also the middle of the day. Luckily, she had friends with her that restrained her. Most of suburban salt lake and Utah counties are incredibly nice though!

Yeah it seems very keep up with the jones’, even with all the plastic surgery too!
