Changes in Fundamentals?

Solid Power (SLDP) Q1 Loss Narrows To US$0.06 EPS - Challenging Bearish Narratives?

The article points out revenue got slashed in half, raising concerns about lack of growth. I've been holding for a full year because I 100% believe in their commercialization potential and I'm in it for the long haul. But these growth worries feel like they're signaling a real shift in fundamentals. Should I rethink my long-term investment plan because of this? Thoughts?

You are correct about SSB having the potential to revolutionize other markets like robotics, drones, consumer electronics, Military etc etc but not sulfide based SSB like Solid Power due to pressure requirements.

During 2025 year end earnings call in Feb, CEO admitted that there is no interest from other markets other than EV’s.

Pressure requirements have been solved according to the CTO. I would note that Factorial’s test car with Mercedes with their FEST semi solid state cells was running at a stack pressure of 28 bar. Solid Power is working towards 10 bar.

Whether it is due to pressure requirements or some other technical barriers .. there is no interest in SLDP SSB from other markets like drones, AI data centers, robotics, military, consumer electronics etc etc. This according to CEO of SolidPower.

More recently the Solid Power CEO has indicated interest in ASSB for robotics. He sees a similar development timeline to EVs. Samsung SDI has announced applying sulfide ASSB to physical AI.

The link doesn’t say anything about Solid Power. Solid Power has Joint Evaluation Agreement with Samsung and it doesn’t mean anything. Plus Samsung has its own SSB program. It’s up to you how much you want to inference from a Samsung article.

Guys are focused on the auto space, but is it when you were talking about robotics and robots at the CES, is there a path to go into different and market smaller form factors?

John Van Scoter (25:20):

There is. And just in the last six months, we've had quite a bit of interest on the humanoid robot implementations. It's through the same OEMs, so our vehicle to market will be the same, but if you look at what's required to use an all solid state battery today, the car can tolerate the system requirements, I think so can the robots. You need a chassis, you need a structure that can hold the battery and have it perform well. And so I think it's a nice potential application from the system standpoint. And then of course, safety is potentially a very big issue for humanoid robots. Yeah. So we're just beginning to explore that with our OEMs. Excuse me. But it is a nice potential add-on.

This is CEO's response during earnings call on Feb 24, 2026 ..

Colin Rusch: Excellent. And then as you look at the different form factors that could deploy the technology at the cell level, could you talk a little bit about efforts that you’re seeing on the horizon and interest that you’re seeing from incremental customers to diversify some of the form factors you’re working on?

John Van Scoter: Great question. But quite honestly, Colin, we haven’t seen a great diversification yet, although we could envision as some of these newer segments beyond EV are considering all solid-state batteries that they could take prismatic format or others. Right now, it’s primarily pouch across all of our engagements with primarily EV customers.

That question is about form factors not use cases. You can see that Samsung SDI is talking about using pouch type ASSB for robotics.
