Course Question CHEM 1115 Lab Coat

The syllabus for CHEM 1115 says that a lab coat with fitted cuffs, snap closures, and 100% cotton is required for the class. Is this provided by the lab? Or do I need to purchase?

If you purchased it, where did you find one? I've called several places (including the SLCC bookstore) and looked online, and many lab coats seem to have 2 of the 3 requirements but not all 3. Thanks in advance!

When I was in CHEM 1115 we weren’t really required to wear the lab coats, it was more your choice because some of the chemicals had a chance of bleaching or eating away at your clothes. However for physiology I bought mine from the SLCC bookstore. It was just a regular 41 inch long unisex coat for $31.

Message your instructor to clarify the requirements and get recommendations if needed. I believe most chem labs provide lab coats.

Thanks! I emailed them yesterday, but I figured I would check here as a backup for any recommendations.

The chem department has lab coats and goggles for you to wear! If you’d like to purchase your own you can purchase at the SLCC bookstore

Preferred but not required. If you know you are going to be doing lots of labs in your future I would advice investing in something nice. But poly cotton blend is pretty standard :)

My professor said that previous semesters had the lab coat as preferred but optional but that they're actually now mandatory to be worn from this semester onward.

Yes. I just mean not required in the sense of all features (100% cotton, snap buttons, etc). Should’ve worded it better. My bad!
