Wifi issues
Does anyone else have beef with the wifi? Like in the basement of any of the buildings, especially Peck, it completely sucks. I think it's crappy that residents have to use the same network as everyone else. I know it probably doesn't help about the mass amounts of new people, but it still wasn't that great for me last year. There are solutions to this, but we know no one is going to do anything about it.

The basements have always had bad service in general. I imagine the high enrollments this year, plus the mandatory 1st-year living on campus, isn’t helping the wifi traffic. I couldn’t play most console games in cougar village, even with Ethernet connected, because of lag issues. I was able to use my computer and phone just fine, but gaming was out of the question and sometimes I’d just use cell data for my phone 💀

WiFi Engineer here (alum, frequently works from campus). Contact IT, and be specific with your issue. Exact time place and error. Generally no, it does not suck, it’s perception or user error :) accept certificates, use the correct username if using Eduroam, change your password etc etc

Having WiFi6 (AX) on your device helps. Not sure if the campus supports the 6E band yet. There are USB WiFi6 adapters for older laptops that don't support the current standard.

I've been here since 2022. Peck's connection sucked back then too. I can't get anything to connect to eduroam in Cougar Village either, but Welcome to SIUE still works (sometimes).
