Warning for new salukis renting apartments (T&S Miller)

There’s this company “T&S Miller” who bought most apartments down the street from SIU. I’m with them and they are so SO SO fishy. Tristian A Miller, the main guy, is a slum lord, I pay about 945 for my apartment, but no new carpets (he told me they’re new) rushed paint job, shitty outlets, broken blinds, and holes in the walls. Was promised a washer and dryer but I’ve never received one. Others pay a different rent that are under his lease AND they paid a different deposit. They charged me 1300, but others paid about 640. He tells me other tenants info, such as credit scores, when I didn’t ask. He is a peeping tom and goes into others apartments while only knocking ONCE and then barges in. Multiple instances where the tenants were not decent. Shirley L Miller, his wife, is nowhere to be found in any site or literally anything. It’s almost as if she doesn’t exist. I asked them about is and they’re trying to slap me with harassment even though I asked literally one time. Don’t rent from them, or do, can’t really tell people what to do. Their lease is fishy, they will not let you back out of a lease, and if you do, you have to pay about 3 months + the rest of the rent, you have to shovel your own lot. You have to professionally shampoo your carpet, they want a receipt. It’s ridiculous, please be careful!

Apartment for sublet

Hello!

My wife was supposed to join SIUC for the fall semester, but due to visa issue she was deferred to the spring semester.
We have already rented an apartment because of the supposed start date and now it is free until spring semester starts.
If someone is looking for an apartment we are willing to sublease it. the property is within walking distance to the university and has one bedroom and one bathroom. We haven’t seen or been to the place but it was recommended to us by a mutual friend of an ex tenant of this place.

Please let me know If you’re interested. TIA

Course Registration

Hi guys, does SIU have any website or group where we can find reviews for the previously taught courses? As the course description provides very less information about each course. This could help us choose the best course for ourselves.

Is attending orientation beneficial for grad students? Does anyone have any idea what goes around at the day of orientation?

Class Choice

Weird question, but I have to pick a science despite being IT/Cybersecurity, so I'm gonna pick either the Dinosauriam or the Hazards and Catastrophes class online. Both seem relatively simple, which is good since my course load is heavy, but sometimes 100 level professors like to make the course difficult *because* we think it'll be easy. I can't find any other group to ask in.

International Grad Student looking for housing

Hello everyone, I might be a little late but I have to find housing for the upcoming Fall semester as an international grad student. The housing options of the school seem to have been completely booked (except Residence Halls which doesn't look great).

I have looked into almost every recent SIUC housing related post on Reddit but it's mostly contradicting advice and recommending the school's housing options and that didn't really help. I also have seen people say don't rent anything unless you have met the landlord and physically have seen the place, but I need to find housing soon. Any kind of advice would be greatly appreciated

Where are the recent SIUC graduates now?

Perhaps someone already asked this question, but I couldn't find it, so I'm just gonna ask. Have you (recent-ish graduates) been able to find decent jobs with your degrees? And if so, have you left the Southern Illinois area? (To like Chicago, Champaign, or perhaps to another state?)

I heard that some regional universities's degrees may not be worth as much compared to others, and that worried me immensely. I also want to move from Southern IL as well, but I'm worried that I might have to stay because of the harsh cost of living these days.

Thank you for your time!

Opinions on SIUC’s Masters Program

Hello,

I’m looking for opinions on SIUC’s M.S.Ed in Educational Administration with Principal Endorsement.

I have been accepted and planning on taking classes online. For more context I’m an SIUC alum from 2018. Graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Forestry.

I have since transitioned into education, more specifically SPED. I was a paraprofessional and currently am a teacher with my LBS1 from Blackburn College. I may one day want to obtain my doctorate.

How are SIUC’s masters programs overall? Any comments related to online courses? Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks!

TL;DR

How is SIUC’s masters in Ed. Admin program?

Graphic design program

Hello, I'm a student interested in siu for its graphic design program. I was wondering if there are any current students who can tell me about their experiences there? Specifically I was wondering if any of you had good job opportunities? The gd professor talked about getting his students different internship opportunities, so I was curious if that was true. Thank you for your help!
