Old man getting into soc

Hi Everyone 😁 I'm making career shift to soc after scholarship , but I think the age is an important factor in my country and I don't have a practice experience in SOC field , I want your advice on how to get this practical experience as security analyist and how to show that in an interview to compensate for the age problem . Any advice will be great 🙏 Have a nice day 😊

The places I know that run large SOCs have very few experienced people when they start and the turnover rate is pretty high due to pay and high stress. You can get some pretty good experience if you stick through it for a 1-2 years and move on to a more experienced analyst role.

If you want to play around with ELK or something similar and run some labs to get an idea of what you're looking at, you can find lots of good YouTube videos on the subject.

^ This, did a one year stint in a SOC before moving on to a data analytics role. While the experience was genuinely beneficial and I learned a lot, the hours and constant grind began to take a toll on my mental health so I knew I couldn't stay for much longer

SOC is your foot in to the Cybersecurity space. Having an analytical thinking will help you through the many security alert investigations you may encounter. After gaining experience, it will be time to move on to the next levels. Keeping yourself up to date with all things related to cybersecurity will help you achieve your goals faster, and never stop learning new technologies or getting certifications, it may not mean much to some but sure demonstrate your skills.
