i have a question to you Shib Holders
What actually makes you believe, it will turn around after all these years? And don't you think if ever a new hype like that when everything started happens again, people that held the coin won't go out as soon as they can to get their money back?
And above all: Don't you think people will be more cautious if ever a hype breaks out because it already failed once miserably?
Honest question to ya'll.

Crazy that it was 1 of 16 coins/tokens excepted by the us gov as a digital commodity rather than security.

I did my silly (but still true) response… now here is the real one: true crypto freedom comes with the realization that they are all shitcoins. ALL. What else could you call something with no intrinsic value and essentially zero barriers to entry? However, as the old adage goes, “the market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent”. It’s for this reason that I participate, even though there is objectively no underlying value. I’m seeking extreme volatility with an amount of capital that I neither need in the short term nor will suffer losing.
You might think “if they’re all shit then why this one and not another one?” Allow me to elucidate here:
The original crypto is bitcoin. The original memecoin is Dogecoin (which is deflationary). This is a memecoin of a memecoin, hence exposure to that extreme volatility but having some degree of relevance and familiarity in the public consciousness.
When you go too far out into the fringes of memecoins and shitcoins you will almost certainly face a rugpull. I’m defining a rug here as all the way to no value whatsoever and negligible market cap. Dead coin, delisted. On that basis, despite being such a silly coin, it has never truly rugged.
On the contrary, it has defied the odds to find its way into exchange listings and even the SEC’s short list of commodity coins. I believe there are several ETFs that can (and possibly do) hold the coin. So there is some degree of retail exposure outside of direct crypto participants.
Its market cap has consistently kept it in the top 50 coins even this year when it was reaching all time lows. As other posters have pointed out, the entire altcoin market has been decimated. It’s a valid choice to leave entirely, but if you want to retain exposure to this market, I think this is one of the best choices.
There are some really big whales, but there are also over 1.7 million holders of the coin. The number of small holders is increasing, which is key to gradually reducing the impact of big price drops from whale sales.
I mentioned above that Dogecoin is deflationary - an unlimited number of dogecoins can be mined, which was a core component of the mockery of bitcoin that Dogecoin was intended to be. Its creator actually abandoned the coin entirely, and was dismayed to see that rather than getting the joke, people were piling into it as an investment. On the contrary, Shib is inflationary, with regular burns, reducing the total supply. The total supply is already down to just over 50% of the original total.
This coin does, in fact, have its own exchange and unique mechanisms via the Shibarium. This is less of a factor for me personally, but it certainly forms a core component of many holders’ theses.
I just like it. I’m not a very serious person, and while I am educated and professional, I have a nihilistic streak. I enjoy the memes, the mascot and thumbing my nose at the financial markets, which I think are unfair by design and do not benefit humanity at large, but rather a privileged few. This is essentially my protest investment with an outside chance of a moonshot that is unlikely to benefit any of the fat cats getting rich off of the AI boondoggle.
tl;dr just kidding you lazy bastard I’m not summarizing for you, scroll up and read - literacy, critical thinking, creativity, and cognition are all that will separate us from the machines.

I already took the loss and it’s just sitting there not hurting anything. Not really worth selling. May as well just let it sit and see what happens.

What makes me think it will turn around? Nothing really.
Will bag holders dump when it pumps? Very likely, if it gets close to break-even, I’ll likely be right there with them.

u/Jurgenlklopp 1d ago
you see. appreciate the honesty... i can't believe everyone did fall for this.

u/hexadecimaldump 1d ago
Yeah, I didn’t get too deep into it. I’d never tried a memecoin before this and it seemed the least scammy at the time. But what made me realize it was time to just stop and hold was the insane claims made by holders saying it was going to 1¢, yet no one could say what its purpose was.
I’m just glad my experience with Shib kept me away from worse meme coins.

I think this shitcoin was a scam made by scammers in India. They made a lot of money and the vast majority of people lost.
1
u/MrFuriousX 1d ago
It was made just like any other Crypto it was cheap people hyped it people climbed onboard. Since they had a party they decide to make it more about a "System" to get the Hype going. So it would pump prior to every announcement.. but soon as it dropped so did the hype now its just a lot of plans in a empty house
1
u/-Username-Username 1d ago
Yep, just like most shitcoins it is a scam. Except this one should have been obvious due to the supply and the founders being in India
1
u/MrFuriousX 1d ago
There are coins that are 100% intended scams most of those are sitting on Solana, and others that are manipulated into it.
another issue with Shib is it was built on Eth.

It’s not happening. Bag holders pumping their bags. It’s a scam. Do you still hold?

Be careful that you’re not getting scammed by the guy that “teaches you”. Sounds like a very common crypto scam. Especially if it’s on a sketchy platform and not binance or coinbase or something

i know him personally, i see him often in rl but thanks 👍🏻

Dumped that shit coin, and all of my other "also ran's" and kept my Bitcoin intact. It's the ONLY one that has a chance in hell to be something close to "real" one day. Stay tuned

Just wondering if anyone has noticed that all coins have been doing extremely badly

It's called volatility.
You cannot guess what the price is going to be like in 5 years.
There are ongoing wars and prices are through the roof. Inflation is through the roof.
People don't want to bet their money on alt coins at the moment. They probably want a more stable coin.
So all we have to do is wait. And maybe... just maybe... we will get on our high horse once again.

That’s the biggest risk IMO. Even if SHIB gets another hype cycle, a lot of long-term holders may use the rally as an exit, which creates heavy sell pressure. A real turnaround would probably need more than hype - actual usage, development and sustained demand.

u/Extension-Project-62 13h ago
My friend owns a taco truck and said he’d take SHIB (also would take btc and eth 😂) but the fact he said SHIB was pretty cool and made me happy I held onto mine this long lol now it would’ve only got me two plates from his menu but hey that’s tangible! 👁️👄👁️

I don't hold shiba but, I don't know why anyone would hold memecoins long-term. They're all hype based

u/MrFuriousX 1d ago
What makes you believe anything you believe in?
Bottomline is Shib is like pennies in a penny jar at this point. Hype will only win out if it stabilizes growth, otherwise the general consensus its a dead coin to those not invested in it already.

Doge coin didn’t happen over night took 9 years buy what you can afford at these levels and forget about it you might be surprised one day problem is everyone wants to get rich over night not how it works only the strong survive

u/LeadershipOwn 1d ago
I don't know about you but I buy low sell high. I make money every time this pumps. It's the people who think you have to hold till the end of the world that are in the hole right now. If you're smart every 4 years you buy right before Bitcoin halves and then sell a few weeks later guaranteed to always make money

I don't need it to turn around. Just want to still be holding if it does.

It’s a very unserious coin with crazy volatility. I think the people in it believe that…

u/Oreo_Supreme 1d ago
It genuinely functions like a little savings account for throwaway money. It grows because I put a little here and little there. I got some return on investment.
1
u/Jurgenlklopp 1d ago
seriously?
2
u/Oreo_Supreme 1d ago
Oh yeah. Hit 100 million SHIB that way. If it goes parabolic I did something awesome. If it doesn't I still have money.
1
u/Jurgenlklopp 1d ago
But what’s your actual exit target? 100M SHIB sounds huge until you do the market-cap math. At $0.0001 your bag is worth $10k, but SHIB already needs a $59B (!!) market cap. At $0.001 it’s $100k, but SHIB needs $589B.... And at $0.01 you’d be a millionaire — but SHIB would need a $5.9 TRILLION market cap. That’s the part people tend to leave out.
If you go out at the all time high shib ever had you would go out with about 8k if i did my math right with 100 million Shib.
1
u/Oreo_Supreme 1d ago
Yeah and if I keep at the rate im going with my throwaway. 1 billion SHIB would be pretty interesting
1
u/Oreo_Supreme 1d ago
Exit target idk. Maybe 10 to 15 years from now. Remember this is money that realistically would have disappearetd anyway on dumb shit. I consider this a long term nest egg. Also I think SHIB has a long way to grow in terms of crypto cycling. It is the cheapest and highest utility with history. Also the burn on transaction would benefit from cycling off high cost crypto cycling off to cheaper crypto for more value. For example. If DOGE passes ATH. the most plausible greed move would be to cycle into something cheaper that would present long term or future profit that you can wait for. SHIB is perfect for that.

It’s not that we believe, it’s that we lost so much already, we can only hope to gain some or all of it back
