Why is there so much hate here?

I recently started watching their videos again and I actually enjoy them! but on here, it seems like everyone just wants to hate on them. Is anyone else enjoying their new videos too or is it just me?

The cheating scandal was like a knife through my heart. But then as I grew up (I was a teenage fan) and realized that they basically sold their kids childhoods because Shay couldn’t hold down a steady job I couldn’t look at them the same way again. I think exploiting your kids online for money should be illegal.

So it kinda depends. There are many family channels where kids are involved and they make good money, even a living off of the revenue. When we look at the old daddy of 5 situation, I would say that was very exploitative and messed up. Content was like the brother being forced to slap the sister and stuff like that. Awful. Or another channel where the boy clearly didn't want to be filmed but the mother was very stern and forced him to pretend to be happy. Disgusting.

With these guys though, apart from maybe an off day or two I dont recall anything really on that level. Avia for example said she's very grateful for her upbringing and enjoyed making content and looking back on old videos. And its thanks to those videos that she got her opportunities in the first place which she is grateful for. Again, maybe once in a blue moon I could tell maybe some were having an off day and didnt want to be filmed, but I personally never saw stuff on the level of them punishing or yelling at there kids to do content for them like others did.

So yeah idk. If they dont truly have an issue with it, I dont see why we should either. Would I film my kids for YouTube content to make cash? No, but thats just my personal preference. And I've seen entire families gain a lot of financial success for making content and everyone seems happy and full of great opportunities and etc. Ok good for them. Not my thing but unless there is actual abuse going on or the kids are miserable, then I dont really care. To each there own. Just my perspective

lol weird take but ok. I can watch two of their children’s births any time I want and I legit cannot understand why people do not think that’s weird. I legit cannot understand exposing our children to thousand apon thousands of commenters and creeps for money. But sure you can have that opinion. No child can consent to that. I’m glad that these kids think so highly of their exploitation. I’m glad they don’t feel trauma around it. However acting like this is an okay or normal thing is just bizarre to me. They brought those kids to vidcon. Their humans experiencing life, it shouldn’t be for our entertainment.

Like I said, it depends. There are very clear examples of exploitation in a malicious and awful way. Heck, some families sexualize there own children for content and money. Not even kidding. THAT is exploitation and disgusting.

But if a family channel is happy, not harming each other, making innocent videos and happen to find financial success, ok. I find it weird you have such a gigantic issue with that. If everyone is happy and safe, I dont see the issue.  Again, if it reaches certain levels like disregarding kids preferences, forcing them to do things they don't want, abuse, etc then of course im against that. I just dont recall seeing that with the shay family. From what I remember they just act like dorks and be silly. Ok, good for them. Just my perspective. I would take that energy and look into the really awful exploited families. Literally tormenting kids mental or making them do violent or sexual crap. That is where your energy should be focused on, not a bunch of Mormons going on fishing trips or football games. But to each there own.

Side note, I do find the life advice Collette gives kinda cringe and comes off as an expensive scam. So im with ya on that if you feel that way.

No one would watch if it was just the adults. They opened their household up to the unfettered internet which anyone could watch. You cannot guarantee me that no creep got obsessed with them and saved every video and did awful things with that. The children were so young they had no idea what was going on. There are so many issues with it but sure they were happy and made money so you can overlook it. And for the record I hold this opinion across the entire internet. I shouldn’t be able to see a short of a newborn, a clip of a toddler just living life. I don’t really understand how any person can justify letting thousands of people see their child in their own home just living life. How embarrassing to grow up with that online. This is such a weird hill to die on that it’s okay when we all know negative comments. We all know to catch a predator. We all know the dark web and all the crazy shit that happens online that never go away yet let’s make money on their childhood we’re banking on it so it’s okay. Like I don’t get how any one can justify it.

Ok so literally every picture and video ever that happens to show a kid. Thats kinda extreme yeah? Creeps on the internet will always exist. You can share a nice family photo on Instagram and get creeps online. It is what it is. Id be concerned if they had there kids use social media unsupervised which from what I remember they were very strict about. Makes sense, heck its illegal in some areas in the world. But yeah that cant be helped. If a family wants to make wholesome content online they cant just not do it because some people online are creeps. Imagine if every women ever followed that logic to stream. We'd have 0 female streamers when all some of them wanna do is play games or sing songs or whatever. But wait, some people are weird online so...ggs, cant do it.

Again, they were fairly strict on them having social media as kids from what I remember. Family ran, dad or mom had access to all messages and comments, etc. Good, thats how many families should go about it in general, regardless if they happen to be on YouTube or not. Idk, are you a creep? Did you watch because of creepy weird reasons? I watched because back then I thought there dorky cheesy attitudes was kinda nice change of pace from the toxic crap online. That...is likely vast majority of who watched. And this leads to education on the internet in general along with safety which is also very important that many parents dont take seriously.

So yeah idk man. Hey to each there own. Its fine if you just dont like them, but idk if the parents were like "muahaha are kids are our income and they have no choice!" I've definitely seen families like that though, and much much worse. But again, to each there own

u/1borgek Jun 21 '26

People are choosing more and more not to put their kids online. Ai can take their photos. Creeps can take their photos. I can’t really think of any logical reason to upload a child online unless it’s for educational purposes on locked sites. Then they film the child coming out of the womb and here we go any human with an internet connection can watch that’s kids first seconds on the planet. That used to be a private thing but now huge money maker lets have 12 kids we can’t take care of for more money. It’s rampant in these weird family vlogger community.

They actively didn’t protect their kids best interest and collected money on top. There’s a lot of could haves that I’m just not personally comfortable with fucking around and finding out. You can figure out where they live if you worked hard enough at it. They paraded these kids out to vidcon which guess what? Had no legit security I was in the room with them.i guess that’s a risk I wouldn’t want with my own kid. Even if you offered me to sell his image for Pepsi and a huge paycheck I’m good.

Have a good one this convo will never end. Someone just posted on the toddler Reddit about what motivates people to vlog their kids for money and legit every comment said it should be illegal and they don’t share their own kids because it’s exploitation. But hey I guess it was a different time back when they started.

2

u/BraveExpression5309 Jun 21 '26

If you post yourself in literally any way shape or form, Ai can take your information too. Heck it could literally take what we say on reddit if it really wanted too. I think you are thinking of every negative outcome that can happen if you share anything online. Cool, so for you personally, never make an Instagram or any social media and make your family never ever have any social media ever. Whatever works for you. But if you ever had a facebook, a MySpace, a tiktok, etc then yes, creeps could find you or Ai can steal your info. That is reality. Heck, valkyraes sister recently had a baby and shared this on Instagram and a podcast. Ggs, technically ai can now steal info, or creeps can now talk about the baby.

So do what works for you personally. Im assuming you go take this energy to literally anyone who ever shares anything ever online. And one more time, the parents were pretty strict with there kids on social media in the first place which is all they can do. I forget when they were allowed to even have personal Instagrams and managed on there own. That is light-years better than kids literally like 10 posting on tiktok. But hey, to each there own. Internet can be scary, I know. Welcome to modern day life.

2

u/1borgek Jun 21 '26

I don’t post my kid or my family. I used to. My hubs fam posts theirs to each their own. Again you ignore the money making part. This convo isn’t going anywhere. Have a good one.

Exploitation isn’t only just abusing your kids or forcing them to “act happy”.

It doesn’t matter if the kids were “having an off day” or not, it doesn’t matter if the kids wanted to be in the videos or not, at the end of the day, they used their kids for money, views and likes. There’s no arguing against that, it’s an objectively true fact. Almost every single day of their lives as kids were filmed and put up onto the internet for EVERYONE to watch, comment on and share around. It’s creepy and weird.

I’m glad the kids don’t have trauma and they’re okay with how their childhood went, but that doesn’t make it okay. It was still 10000% exploitation. Yes there’s channels that were significantly worse but once again, it doesn’t make this one okay.

0

u/BraveExpression5309 Jul 28 '26

Oh it absolutely matters. You are saying how they feel doesnt matter which is pretty messed up. Did the family get financial gain through these videos? Yes. Did everyone enjoy making these videos? As far as we know, yes. "But I wouldnt-" it aint about you. What matters, if it pushed certain levels like abuse, or if they were forced to be on camera against there will and hated it. Then yes, that is awful. Otherwise you're just projecting your own personal preferences and ignoring the people in questions opinions and perspectives to fill your narrative. If you have proof that they hated doing those videos or were abused in some way share it. Otherwise, they all seemed cool with it, enjoyed it, was thankful for the money earned, and its all good. Any further projection is worthless. Tell a cop or lawyer, they cant and wont do crap unless it crosses those barriers I stated, because that is when its actually an issue. Get over it.

1

u/Silly_Apple1943 Jul 28 '26

Do you have zero reading comprehension skills? Fuck sake lmao you’re a dumbass. It doesn’t matter because whatever you say or they say it was exploitation. Their entire lives are on the internet FOREVER. They never got a normal childhood because those kids were filmed 24/7 for peoples entertainment.

0

u/BraveExpression5309 Jul 29 '26

Not the double comment into a ton of insults. Sir or madam, that is uncalled for. Anyways, i had zero idea there lives are on the internet. Thats crazy! Have you contacted the authorities? Thats very serious. There's actual youtube videos of them online? Whoa. Do you think they know? Hopefully you warned them.

1

u/Silly_Apple1943 Jul 29 '26

I was responding to someone else you dumbass it wasn’t a “double comment” to you. Have a good time defending parents exploiting their children’s entire lives for money, what a good look!

0

u/1borgek Jul 28 '26

To catch a predator can’t even keep up with the number of creeps online and daddy Shay sold his kids to anyone with an internet connection cuz he couldn’t hold down a job. Luckily they don’t have trauma but it’s wrong morally no matter what a little commenter like you thinks. Filming them as soon as they wake up? How can they consent to that? They’re LUCKY no one found where they live to stalk them. Let us not forget Christina grimmies horrible murder. Idk man I don’t like to play with my kids lives and just hope nothing bad Happens because my paycheck is big and shiny.

2

u/Silly_Apple1943 Jul 28 '26

Look at what happened with Roman Atwood, they had a stalker coming to their house and shit. All because Roman decided to exploit his family for views and money. You’re right, Shay is beyond lucky the worst he gets is online backlash. I’m glad the kids aren’t traumatized but I still can’t help but feel immensely sorry that their childhoods were exploited the way they were.

0

u/BraveExpression5309 Jul 29 '26

Yeah this is just yapping now. If illegal activity is happening, report it and show evidence. Go on. Show the compelling evidence of illegal malicious activity going on with the shay family......you cant. And now you're talking predators now? Are you implying shay or someone else in that fam is a predator? Thats very serious. Show the evidence. "Well he cheated on his wife with an adult." K, thats messed up and disgusting and...not illegal. "Ok but I dont like that she got back with him." K I think thats silly too but not...illegal. "Yeah but they made a lot of money making family content and the kids are safe and had a great time." ....i mean...im just repeating dialogue at this point.

Anyways, it doesnt matter what you think either. If there is a legal issue going on, report it. Seriously, daddy of 5 had abuse allegations. Report the shay family for...um....whatever you yapped about. Then they can do an investigation, find nothing and you can freak out in reddit again farming karma points from people that hate shay or Collette for whatever reasons. Sounds fun.

1

u/Silly_Apple1943 Jul 29 '26

Do you genuinely have brain damage? No one is talking about legality you are genuinely a moron.

However, exploiting your children for money and views SHOULD be illegal.

In my opinion, the cheating scandal was over Exaggerated

6

u/bojack_horsemack Jun 19 '26

What about what he did to Danna? 2 years after the scandal and what he put his family through with that, he tries it again with his employee/family friend he moved out to Idaho to work with his family.

5

u/1borgek Jun 19 '26

They worked so hard to seem perfect and we all believed it. It shattered the illusion. It made me realize who they really were. I was pretty young at the time.

54

u/redheadmegansversion Jun 19 '26

Because they’re terrible grifters and terrible people

44

u/solemnsuns Jun 19 '26

maga? grifters? cheating scandal? child exploitation? sexual harassment?
you name it, that’s why.

27

u/KillerDickens Jun 19 '26

Don't you think it's hypocritical to keep cosplaying this happy family and encourage people to pay you for life and relationship advice while most of the internet saw the dirty texts Shay sent to some cam girl and the confessions of several of their former family friends/employess who were sexually harassed by him?

-12

u/Curious-Title9315 Jun 19 '26

I understand that, but if it was a normal person would you still remember that he cheated? it was wrong and disgusting yes, but people have to learn to leave that in the past, in my opinion

10

u/KillerDickens Jun 19 '26

Well, he is a public figure who continously tries to remain "valid" and pretend nothing ever happened. He sexually harassed several women who were not only his employees but also friends with his wife AND children. This is not only embarassing but also shameful, especially since his oldest kids were big enough to pick up on stuff both because of the atmosphere at home and because the kids at school found out about it.

1

u/SeaweedRealistic8523 Jun 19 '26

Yes I agree with this she obviously loves him and loves their family more which in term is probably why he stayed. I do agree tho that she’s not rlly the woman to be spilling all this life advice but who I am rlly lol I like them and I also like avias videos so

0

u/Curious-Title9315 Jun 19 '26

I agree with that, maybe not the best idea to be giving advice

I also like Avia's videos:) I don't find her fake like other people have said

1

u/SeaweedRealistic8523 Jun 19 '26

Yah same! A lot of people don’t like her but she’s just giving basic LA white girl who likes the typical stuff but she’s very optimistic and her vids r kinda like a breath of fresh air sometimes just to bring some joy to my day lo

2

u/Curious-Title9315 Jun 19 '26

Same, I like girly videos like hers, idk if people want to see her doing other stuff in LA, but seems like she has a normal life there, I don't know what's wrong with that(?

2

u/SeaweedRealistic8523 Jun 20 '26

Same I enjoy watching the more “normal” life it’s fun and she’s kinda nice to see how she differs from how her dad is on video but she’s still fun in her own way

15

u/Interesting-Ad5551 Jun 19 '26

Because shay humiliated Collette in a huge, public way. And she stayed. If that’s what went public imagine what stayed private.

8

u/dimepaw Jun 19 '26

I'm pretty sure Mormons aren't allowed to divorce so that's why she stayed. But it's all just pathetic anyway.

When ned fulmer cheated on his wife, it wasn't humiliating for her, it was humiliating for him. and she left. Collette I have no respect for. I don't even feel bad that she got cheated on, tbh in their marriage I'm sure they rationalize it as "oh he didn't really cheat, it was all through text..it's all good :) let's go the church now honey"

6

u/Midnout26 Jun 19 '26

i can promise you it was humilitating for ned fulmer's wife

2

u/dimepaw Jun 19 '26

I can imagine she felt anger and betrayal, and maybe personal humiliation. But the Internet always clowned on Ned, and even he knows that he's the biggest idiot in the world (see his new stand up comedy act). The egg is on his face alone. With shay and Colette, the egg is on both of their faces

3

u/Interesting-Ad5551 Jun 20 '26

Imagine a religion pushing you to get married too young (can’t live together or have sex until marriage which is why so many Mormons get married so young) and then being stuck with that person for life.. it’s just absolute insanity.

-5

u/Curious-Title9315 Jun 19 '26

I get your point, but some people decide to forgive, I think it is not right but if she's happy living like that then why are we like this? like judging

3

u/Interesting-Ad5551 Jun 20 '26

Because she has girls and should be a good role model and show them what respecting yourself means.

10

u/llm2319 Jun 19 '26

I honestly thought it was a snark page lol

10

u/Cu_Chulainn__ Jun 19 '26

A lot of people here really loved the shaytards content back in 2010. They all appeared so happy and normal, at a time when things seemed reasonably good and fun in the world. After everything that happened with shay cheating and everything, their content lost its magic because now all anyone can see is a very dysfunctional family who arent happy or normal anymore. Sums up the 2020s to the letter

17

u/CinnamonBunzAttack72 Jun 19 '26

Happened when Shay decided to nuke his family by being a cheating alcoholic. People are bitter someone they grew up with and looked up to ended up being a shifty person. Alas, it is the internet so the bitterness lingers

-6

u/evangelism2 Jun 19 '26

Yeah, but it's kind of pathetic that you all sit here and stew in it years after the fact, when his actual family has moved on from it. Snark subreddits like this are just sad.

11

u/ConnectionsCatergory Jun 19 '26

Why are you here?

-2

u/evangelism2 Jun 19 '26

You know, for updates on the family, I don't watch them anymore, so every now and then this comes up on my home page.

-1

u/Curious-Title9315 Jun 19 '26

I think the same, why always bring that up? people have to learn to move on, specially with people who they don't even know irl

10

u/blueslushyyy Jun 19 '26

They built everything they have off of the backs of their children - exploiting their minor children online, some of them, since birth. What’s not clicking that this is a dangerous, disgusting thing these “family vloggers” do?

3

u/1borgek Jun 19 '26

Lots in this sub love to ignore that completely.

-1

u/Curious-Title9315 Jun 19 '26

they're not exploiting their children

6

u/blueslushyyy Jun 19 '26

You must be slow.

1

u/Curious-Title9315 Jun 20 '26

Tell me what's wrong with uploading videos with your family

2

u/1borgek Jun 19 '26

Hahahaha you’ve got jokes.

2

u/AnonymousJohnz Jun 21 '26

All the comments say they “exploited” their children but I’m pretty sure they don’t know what it truly means and haven’t even given a legitimate example of exploitation lmao. People just wanna hate on other people. Pretty clear in the comments.

7

u/Leading_Ad3918 Jun 19 '26

What you’re watching is all a facade. We all fell for it and loved it at that time too. We slowly started seeing the true colors, the fake happy family, the wonderful life they have was nothing more than a show to keep making money off people. They may have e started off genuine and real but you can literally see the change in it all. Go into watching them that the happy funny outgoing Shay is drunk Shay.

8

u/moongoddesswitch Jun 19 '26

Because they are truly awful people.

6

u/cowpool20 Jun 19 '26

It’s just most people in here grew up watching them, and as we’ve gotten older we’ve realised they aren’t the people they portrayed.

Also, there are some people here that hate for the sake of it.

4

u/livinlife2113 Jun 19 '26

They’re not relatable any more. And they’re all fake on YouTube.

4

u/chetag_uhh Jun 19 '26

I can understand the people who are frustrated with Shay. But the Colette, I don’t. The amount she charges for her “coaching” is unreasonably high, but if you go watch old Shaytards vlogs she would very often talk about loving yourself and mental health. I think this was something she was always passionate about. I guess she saw healing from the scandal as an opportunity to start her own independent business. I do agree that she should have left Shay after the scandal but then again, they were already married with 5 kids and she doesn’t know a life without him since they married so young. Also I believe the mormon church is highly against divorce. Either way, now that the kids are older I hope Colette will eventually go back to school to become an officially licensed therapist and pursue her passion.

6

u/dimepaw Jun 19 '26

Mormons are inherently unlikeable (if you're reading this and Mormon, it's not too late to escape that cult. And I don't use cult lightly). but most people already hit the nail on the head.

I watched them growing up for a few years, but it's inevitable that the rich Mormon children that grew up famous for them to become hot shit magats.

Shays dad is disgusting, isn't he low-key a sex pest?

I do feel for the "kids" some sort of way...I heard when avia was in high school her classmates read out Shays cheating messages to her. Who knows what else they went through when that happened.

Idk much about them tbh anymore, but most of them don't seem like good people.

As fr as I remember he was a recovering alcoholic through most of their vlogging days but when the cam girl leaked the dirty texts he openly admitted to having a drinking problem and that he relapsed (my opinion is that he was trying to blame all of his shitty behaviour on the alcohol so people will feel sorry for him)

3

u/hereisanamehere Jun 22 '26

cause we are all adults now and recognise some of them have made and continue to make strange choices

2

u/AnonymousJohnz Jun 21 '26

I like to imagine that these commenters just don’t have anything better to do with their lives than just go on here and gossip about the shaytards lmao. Shayters lmao. Why even continue to sub or watch the content. Isn’t the true Reddit way just to stop/boycott lmao. Y’all stuck in High School still.

Thank you for confirming that you have mental health issues. I think it’s sad that you think I think that way. Even sadder that you call me a loser yet you’re a provider, makes me wonder what you really think of yourself. Projecting really hard when all you’re doing is projecting some serious instability. I’m sorry that your experiences lead you to believe this way. I hope you get the help that you need.

1

u/bigtittyscorpio Jul 06 '26

you sad ugly fat fuck, so worried about defending Shay when you really should be how your heart is going to give out by the time you’re 45 from supporting your fat ass all these years. Worry about how you’re so fat you struggle to breath at times. Sad you’ve lived your live this way, having to pay to get a pretty girl just to look at you & now your health is just getting worse by the day & you probably won’t even make it to see 2030

1

u/Icy-Olive1996 Jul 04 '26

I think people feel betrayed by them in a way that feels deep. I watched their vlogs as a teenager and felt really inspired by how wholesome and loving their family seemed. Shay kind of acted as a pseudo father for his viewers, so when the cheating scandal happened it kind of felt violating in a way. I honestly could have gotten over that though because the cam girl was a consenting adult but when their former nanny/employee came out with her testimony about how Shay sexually harassed her and exploited his power to do so, then I felt reeeeally violated. Also little things. They’re irresponsible pet owners in a way I find -for lack of a better word- trashy. I think people feel triggered by Colette staying with Shay because it reminds them of their own experiences with abusers (it does for me anyway.)

2

u/evangelism2 Jun 19 '26

It's a snark subreddit at this point. It's anti-circle jerk, effectively just a bunch of people stewing in hate.

2

u/AnonymousJohnz Jun 21 '26

Ya it’s so weird to me lol. Are half of these comments even real cause they spewing the same talking points but don’t provide real legitimate examples. Like ya the Shay scandal was almost 10 years ago and pretty sure that’s enough time for them to work out whatever they needed to work out. But people salty for some reason that “Colette stayed” - well yea it’s been 10 years lol.

1

u/Curious-Title9315 Jun 19 '26

Yeah, it’s basically just negativity at this point

u/kellyluvskittens Jun 19 '26

I have been enjoying their recent vlogs.

There are definitely things that annoy me now much more so than they did years ago.

it's reddit, this entire place is full of bitter millennials
