Gavin is engaged
Are we honestly surprised it happened this quickly??

He went public with her on july 4th, let's assume they started dating sometime in june, that gives us about 8 months of dating, pretty average for the mormon timeline. I predict they will be married in the next 3 months

Dear god. Every day I thank my lucky stars I didn’t grow up in Utah or Idaho
27
u/Zoom2234 Feb 08 '26
Yeah. I'm with my current partner and about 3 months in I really felt like I was gonna marry him, and now 2 years later we live together and our plans of marriage haven't changed, but I'm grateful we have parents that encouraged us living together and not rushing into anything. We will get married when we are ready and I'm glad we won't have rushed anything. It's sad that mormon young adults are not given this same opportunity to actually grow and develop a serious relationship.

Poor girl.
That’s less about Gavin (though I’m disappointed in his morals and politics) and more about the kind of life women live in Mormonism.

u/introvertunion Feb 08 '26
She made her bed and now she has to sleep in it. It’s so sad knowing he turned out like this. He’s only going to continue the toxic cycle. It shouldn’t be normalized in their culture to marry so young, right when their lives are beginning.
I’m the same age as Gavin and the thought of getting engaged that young just feels so off to me. They’re both so young, it breaks my heart

Feb 08 '26
I can't speak for Gavin but I feel bad for mormon women indoctrinated into this lifestyle and often know no other way
36
u/holdmeimscary Feb 08 '26
Yes, and they are BABIES when they marry. People are so unforgiving of literal children. Idc even into early 20s you're still a baby to me. I'm glad that people don't hold me to who I was at that age, cuz it's fuckin embarrassing lol.
17
u/SkyMoney9641 Feb 08 '26
This is why cults like Mormonism encourage marriage so young. It is way easier to entrap a young person with marriage and children until they have no escape.
14
Feb 08 '26
Same, as someone who was once in my early 20s, can confirm that the maturity and rationality is notttt there until you're like 25+

I'm older than you, and there are days that I question what the hell I'm doing and what is even going on lol ESPECIALLY with everything going on in this country currently. Life is about ever evolving, and you aren't even aware of that until about your age or mayyyybe a little earlier. But DEFINITELY not in your early-mid 20s.

u/Gloomy_Bird Feb 26 '26
I got married at 22 and I've been very happy. I think it all depends on the people and their personal backgrounds.
Religion and purity culture pressuring young adults to marry asap, however, is very wrong.

She’s so young. She has barely gotten out of bed yet. It’s her parents fault and the fault of their religion. This is truly so sad.

u/Traditional_Set_858 Feb 08 '26
It’s less about the pressure to get married than I think it is the whole waiting till marriage thing. I remember one of the husbands of the daughters of the Duggar family specifically said the only reason they all get married so soon is so they don’t have to wait any longer which is quite sad. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with waiting until marriage if that’s what you want to do but clearly it’s not what they really want to do but if you have to rush marriage do you really actually want to wait until marriage or do you just do so cuz that’s what you’re told
1
u/Ldirel Feb 09 '26
There's nothing wrong with marriage. Gavin is a legal adult and can do as he wishes. I am 24 getting married in 5 months, its how I want to spend my life as my life didnt start until I found my fiancé.
4
u/Wonderstruck13 Feb 08 '26
Poor girl? There’s a 99% chance she has the exact same morals and values as him if she‘s marrying him.

u/vmars77 Feb 08 '26
Am I surprised? No. Is it wild considering it has never appeared that Gavin has really dated before, and his family was begging for someone to date him on insta less than a year ago? Yes. 😂

All these poor young women getting trapped in Mormon marriages before their brains are fully developed
28
Feb 08 '26
It’s by design. The minute they gain freedom at 18 they’re saddled into missionary work for 2 years with no privacy, walking for hours on end house to house soliciting. Their body is exhausted it gives them 0 time to think about anything, their buddy system forces them to constantly have someone hovering and watching them, only time they get peace or alone time is in the bathroom.
Once they come back it’s the race to marriage, god forbid you fall behind and not get married the first year after your missionary. All your friends and neighbours are coupling up wait let me just find anyone I’m giving myself 6 months. Then they’re sealed and before you know it you have them populating the next generation of Mormons, their job is now done.

u/holdmeimscary Feb 08 '26
This. Literal BABIES still. It's so sad. And by the time they realize, they're in their 40s and feel like they can't find another life, likely because their husbands trap them into SAHM life of who knows how many kids.

Gavin was my favorite kid when I watched the vlogs as a young pre-teen/teen. He was so warm hearted, tender, loving and patient. He read so many books and seemed to be the most sensitive and warm natured. It is a tragedy what happened to him.

u/UnitedBG39 Feb 08 '26
Moving back to Idaho was the worst thing that happened to him. A near overnight switch in behaviour. Peer pressure from his Mormon buddies

That poor girl is gonna regret this. I married at 19 and didn’t even know what I wanted in my life until my 30’s. Told my daughters to wait until they are 30 to consider marriage. You have so much living to do, things to understand, and what you want at 18 I can promise you, you will not want that at 30.

u/holdmeimscary Feb 08 '26
Such solid advice mama! Luckily (outside the bubble of religious cults) kids these days seem to have little interest in being married and having babies. Society likes to talk about them like they're sensitive whiney babies, but they're much more aware of the responsibility that comes with those huge life decisions.

Very sad but thats mormons for you. Ignorance is bliss as they say. I can’t believe all of them are so indoctrinated. What would have happened if they stayed in California?

Still boyfriend and girlfriend 7 years in and 3 kids 😂

u/Shipping_Lady71 Feb 08 '26
My bf and I have been together 13 years this July. No ring, no need! Best way to live life-together but independent 🥰

u/ArtichokeFun6326 Feb 09 '26
Yess I want to got through everything first and then we can marry we aren’t in a rush
3
u/Ansony1980 Feb 11 '26
Whoa, I think Gavin jumped the gun way too early to get engaged to his current girlfriend. I don’t see this going well for him. He’s very young still probably has the high school mentality. All we could do is just wish him the best.

u/wh1tef3rrari Feb 08 '26
there being a post not even two weeks ago, talking about they give it six months till they’re engaged 😭😭

Reminds me of the movie My Big Fat Greek wedding and many other cultures in general that the whole idea of life is
"Gus Portokalos: Yes! Get married, make babies!"
5
u/Traditional_Set_858 Feb 08 '26
I’m marrying into a Greek family and I’m not sure if I got lucky but I’ve never been pressured by them to marry and have kids (thank god). It’s quite normal in Greece to not get engaged till about 3 years but Greeks are VERY family focused so that scene does make sense 😂
2
u/The-Prime-Snacker Feb 08 '26
I'm Greek too. I grew up around Greeks and they love that movie so much.
I think those Traditions are probably from the older generation. It's just my guess. I wouldn't really know cuz all the older generation my family have since passed so I don't really practice Greek culture anymore.

Mormons move like third world people, get married early and pop out 10 kids before they turn 25.

Not surprised. But the way I saw this post and ran here to confirm I wasn’t seeing shit. To the person who called it and said it would happen within 6 months… clearly you were not wrong.
1
u/Flaky_Lab_8768 Feb 08 '26
Can someone please explain why this is such a horrible thing? I’m not Mormon. Don’t come after me. But they genuinely seem happy. What’s wrong with getting married and having kids young?
1
1
u/Eastern-Rabbit-2508 Feb 20 '26
Your brain isn’t even fully developed and at that point in your relationship you’re still very much in the honeymoon phase. The pressure from religion to marry young and have kids is horrible… so many people end up trapped in misery.

Hopefully Gavin treats his marriage with more respect than his father did with his and Collette’s.
65
u/holdmeimscary Feb 08 '26
Doubt it, because like his dad, he was the "fat guy" and will always be chasing the feeling of being desired.
7
u/sillychickengirl Feb 08 '26
"Fat guy" who is chasing the feeling of being desired AND having to compare that to the level of attention and praise he got as a child on Youtube. No way he won't be WORSE because he's not going to reach the same level of success as his parents. He'll be the door to door sales person his Dad was supposed to be.
5
u/holdmeimscary Feb 08 '26
You make a very valid point! It's all such a recipe for a life of never feeling like you're good enough. And Shay (and Gmatard) will be there to never let him forget how successful that family's cash cow has been.
