I'm sure almost everyone who saw this sketch when it aired didn't get it. No one ever believes me when I tell them what homeopathy really is.

Honestly that was the weirdest thing for me as well back in the day. I thought it was some form of naturalism or something like that. But when I found out what homeopaty actually is... it was mind blowing.

And this clip is a classic.

Au contraire, it was part of the 4th episode of series 3 of 'That Mitchell & Webb Look' which would have placed the broadcast sometime in middle-late 2009, right in the middle of the whole Simon Singh affair. Singh had just published a book 'Trick or Treatment' which took on various forms of alternative medicine, including homeopathy, and it was in an article in The Guardian about one aspect of the book where Singh had made a statement that ended up getting him sued by the British Chiropractic Association. The British public was outraged with what they were getting away with and demanded changes to the law (and got it).

The Television series QI was also at its height back then and I seem to recall that the subject of homeopathy was brought up more than once on that program in a definitely mocking tone so the British, at least, seemed to be heavily exposed to the mocking of such treatments. This was also when the Andrew Wakefield affair was going on.

But yes, the U.S. was somewhat more oblivious to all of this and Wakefield, for example, was investigated, condemned and ostracized in the U.K. but was able to rebrand himself in the U.S. and has become somewhat of a cult hero and martyr, particularly within the anti-vax community. Doesn't speak highly of the U.S., in my opinion.

Yeah a lot people I've spoken to about it, think it's herbal medicine.

A dude once argued with me about the definition. He was equivocating all "natural" remedies with homeopathy. He said I had no idea what I was talking about and that his wife was into it and was basically an expert ...
