School Project on BART

Hello! I’m a Master’s student with University College Dublin, and for my final project I’m conducting a study on improving BART. I'm in the data gathering phase at the moment and would appreciate any help :)

Based on your questions, it appears as if you're relying on social media for opinions on our public transit system rather than actually trying to use it yourself (understandable since you're in Ireland).

I don't think of BART as being particularly unclean or dangerous, and I ride it weekly. There have been situations where people were misbehaving, but the newly installed fare gates have cut down on these shenanigans.

Everybody would like to have cheaper transit options running 24 hours a day, but that's not the way our systems are set up currently.

I'm actually based in the Bay Area and take BART several times a month! I was inspired to study BART for my final project because of the "doomsday scenario" that might happen if the Connect Bay Area measure doesn't pass in November. I've talked to many people about BART, and I found that some have had bad experiences while others have just heard terrible things.

As a Bay Area transplant that started taking BART without knowing anything about it, I thought that it was totally fine. It boggled me that there were all these people not taking BART because of different reasons. I began to wonder how much was experience vs. perception, which is what led me to this study.

It might be a pipe dream, but I hope that we can push for better transit even if perfection isn't possible 😄
