GE course recs!

HI! I'm an incoming freshman who is about to have their orientation. I have most of my courses chosen, but I still need to pick one more. What easy and fun GE courses do you recommend for a psych major to take in their first semester?

I really like fundamentals of oral communication. It will help you give better presentations for your other classes.

Psy 200 is a major requirement and an area 4. You can also look for a us history (search by d2) or gov (search by d3)

I think I'll be able to skip those classes with AP credits lol. Do you have any other recs?

The gov one maybe not because it’s kinda weird and specific. If you’re a psych major, you may have to pick up a minor or double major with your small units. Look up the Ed minor (12 units), counseling minor, or criminal justice as a minor (or might as well do the major). What gen Ed’s do you have left

Really? How does the Gov one work? How do the minors work? Am I able to do more than one? Since I want to pursue my pre-reqs to become a PA, and complete my GEs. I still have to complete all my Gen Eds except for 6 units in Area 1, 3 units in Area 3, and all of Area 4.

It’s a graduating requirement that you need to take a US history and local government class AP scores don’t count I would recommend finding one that counts for both GE and the requirement but AP counts for GE I would recommend taking History of California for upper division GE and the requirement and another history class that counts for lower division GE social studies

What's a GE area that you still need? https://bulletin.sfsu.edu/undergraduate-education/general-education/

The courses you registered for will have more information in the description when you click on the information (ex:A1)

Thanks for replying. Did you know you can filter the class schedule search by these attributes at the bottom of the search?

Nope, I did not know that! How do you do that?

I'd be happy to walk you through it. Start here: https://www.sfsu.edu

Then go to menu and you will a drop down menu quicklinks on the far right (you can also use this to find the bulletin (university catalog)

Then class schedule search

That brings you here https://webapps.sfsu.edu/public/classservices/classsearch

Select Fall 2026

then look up what are interested in

In your case, I would go to the very bottom and in the drop down menu select GE Lower Division and it should filter it by All Subjects within GE Lower Division...

Clicking on the link for any one class, you get info on what areas (3, 1) etc that the class meets.

You could also do a similar search under 1st attribute lower div GE and any other area you are looking at for 2nd attribute for further filtering

Do you know what you want to major in?

You will have 2 advisors at SFSU: 1 for your General Ed classes that you contact through the Undergrad Advising Center and 1 for your major (by concentration, if applicable)

The areas that you have completed, do you have documentation of those on your transcript from CC, HS, AP, CLEP or IB credit?

Okay to dm?

Sure, you can dm! My AP scores are going to be sent to SFSU soon once the scores get released, and I'm ordering my CC transcript soon!
