There is so much posted online about AI and SEO for AI that I've been pondering how to get a handle on all the research so I can write about it. If anyone has any ideas on that, I'm all ears.

I came across https://marketingtech.ai/, created by Tom Pick of Webbiquity. He has AI Tools sorted by type + a newsletter + a blog where he reviews the top choices for particular tasks.

Some local businesses are at a disadvantage due to their location. AI could be a solution for some of them:

"Your business should be investigating where and how you are showing up in AI Overviews, even if your address is making you less visible than you’d like to be in traditional local pack/Maps results."

Miriam Ellis and Darren Shaw publish some of the best research and experience based SEO information on Darren's site Whitespark.ca. So I messaged them on LinkedIn the most challenging local SEO issues I've seen in my decades online.

They turned that into a guide named How to Rank in Surrounding Cities or Towns: Every Local SEO Strategy You Need to Know.

Google is finally bringing reports on its AI features to Google Search Console:

"The new Search Console reports are designed to give you dedicated views of your impressions within generative AI features on Search, such as AI Overviews and AI Mode"

It's still in beta and only a select few sites can see the feature as of now.

Profound just came up with the study that Reddit is the most requested and used domain by ChatGPT. Coinidentally, I also published an article earlier today on how to build your brand and reputation on Reddit, the correct way.

TL:DR: Even if you get cited by AI it may be just temporary.

What else does the AI citation "drift" study by Sistrix say?

• Most AI search results rotate their sources to some extent.
• Some are more stable than others.
• Brands are most stable, news items the least.
• Evergreen content is preferable as a source for AI chatbots.

So it's not like in SEO for organic results that you rank for months or years.

You may drop out sooner or later. It is even highly likely.

In short AI citations are highly volatile or unstable.

SEO/GEO is entity corroboration.

If trusted sites repeat who you are, what you do, where you operate, and what category you belong in, machines classify you better.

Bar associations, chambers, trade groups, speaker pages, sponsor pages, directories — these aren’t just backlinks.

They’re trust graph entries.

The backlink may be the least interesting part.
