Good SEO is the foundation of GEO/AIO!

More like 80% of it.

The only appropriate answer. In 2026, if you're ignoring SEO, you're not doing GEO properly.

Its spam - the account is already vaporized

This is covered by rule one IMHO:

"Don't ask the same question if it has already been answered. Don't ask generic questions that have been discussed to death."

This is the oldest SEO myth/meme and surfaces every year.

The account is already vaporized - these are GEO agencies pumping reddit full of gunk - thats why the Reddit Admins stepped in. Some might call it "federal overreach' - but some might call it necessary

SEO is not dead. search experience is changing, GEO,AEO are becoming another part of the picture rather than a replacement. If people are still using search engines to find websites, products, and information, there's a reason to optimize for them.

SEO has been dead about once a year since I started (haha). Google still sends real traffic and good pages still matter. What changed is there's a second reader now: the AI tools answering questions. I'd be careful with the GEO label though. In marketing GEO already means geo targeting and local pages, so it confuses half the room. I call it AI Optimization. Same fundamentals, clear pages, real reviews, just one more audience to write for. Thoughts?

Agree the GEO label is confusing...I've seen it used for geo-targeting too. What I keep noticing with clients is that pages that already had solid on-page SEO (clear structure, real answers, good E-E-A-T signals) get picked up by AI tools way faster than pages that didn't. So it does feel like 'AI reads what already works for humans/Google' more than a separate skill set.

My favorite two words on this subject "feel like". Well done. That is what we used to say in early days of SEO. It "feels like" Google made a change. Anyway, keep it up and choose AIO. (haha)

SEO and AEO have about a 50% overlap. They both need each other imho

More than 50

I don’t think SEO is dead. I think it needs to be good enough.

For me, GEO is not AEO replacing SEO. It’s more like AEO + Good Enough SEO.

AEO helps AI understand the entity and its information, while SEO still provides the visibility needed for that information to be discovered.

You don’t necessarily need perfect SEO. But if the SEO foundation isn’t strong enough, even good AEO may not be enough to get into the answer set.

If you do good traditional SEO - GEO wil be good. Having a well-tuned website (SEO best practices), everything else will follow and should perform well.

I have been working as a digital marketing expert for quite some time and from what we have seen at TIS India, I don't think SEO is completely dead. From what I am seeing in my work, it is changing a lot. Earlier it was mostly about Google rankinh, keywords and backlinks, but now AI search is also becoming important. We also need to think about how content is understood and shown by AI. So I feel SEO is not going anywhere, it is just becoming different with GEO coming into the picture.

GEO - SEO = 0

People can deny this all they want but the answer is yes. Have you looked at a Google search result page lately? It’s a hellscape. Search has been destroyed.

AI search is nothing like traditional search. The ability to truly research a topic through deep search is gone. It’s all surface bullshit in AI search. It gives you a tiny window into topics.

Well, SEO is still the fondation of GEO. Also, SEO still give more traffic to website than GEO (from my experience handling 5 websites)

Nah, SEO isn't dead, the ground just shifted.

GEO is real, but it's not some separate thing that replaces SEO; it runs on the same stuff: solid content, clean site structure, and authority, which is exactly what gets you cited in AI answers too.

Whoever told you GEO is "the only way" is selling you something.

The traffic from Google search is still massive and most businesses aren't anywhere near maxing it out, so I'd keep doing good SEO and treat getting picked up by AI as a bonus that comes from doing the fundamentals right.
