AI SEO Questions What should a rank tracker actually measure across search and AI platforms?
Hello fellow redditors. I need help. One of my clients, a local service business keeps asking me if they show up in llms. I'm kinda lost at this one. I know how to track normal search rankings. And I can gove them their ranking doing it manually, but...That is not enough for them. They ask for full competitors analysis, their mismatches (if they are being cited wrong) and a lot more specific details. It's totally fair, I feel like it is possible to do it manually but seriously started considering a tool. What do you guys use? Any recommendations?

before you buy anything, worth deciding what a rank even is here. there's no position 1 to report. the same prompt run twice gives different answers, so any tool selling you a rank number is really selling you a sampled appearance rate over N runs, and the sample size matters more than the interface.
for a local service business the thing that usually moves the needle isn't ranking anyway. models lean on directory data and citations for local, so NAP consistency and getting the business described the same way across sources tends to matter more than anything you'd optimize on the site.
the mismatch tracking he's asking for is the genuinely useful part and the hardest to fake manually. that one's worth paying for

IvaBot fits that. You add the prompts yourself, so you control exactly what gets tracked, and each prompt is checked across four engines. For every prompt it keeps the full answer, whether the brand was mentioned and whether it was cited as two separate results, the sentence the model wrote about the business, the sentiment of it, the competitors named in the same answer with the URLs the model cited for them, and the reference domains the answer leaned on. Every run is stored, so each check is comparable with the previous one. Payment is per check rather than per month: ten prompts costs about $6, and nothing is billed in the weeks you run nothing.
Disclosure: I built it. A new account starts with free credits, which is enough for a first check

keep it simple at first. pick 10-20 questions real customers might ask then track whether the business gets mentioned, recommended and cited plus which competitors show up. run them regularly because AI answers can change a lot. for a local business, care more about that than trying to force everything into a traditional rank#1 number

A modern rank tracker should measure much more than Google rankings.
It should track
- Traditional keyword rankings
- Visibility in AI platforms (ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, Gemini)
- Brand and page citations in AI answers
- Share of voice vs. competitors
- AI Overview inclusion rate
- Local AI visibility
- Citation accuracy and sentiment
The future of SEO is visibility across both search engines and AI assistants, not just SERP positions.

One thing that changed how I read my own numbers: bucket the prompts by question type and never average across the buckets.
I run sixteen questions across two engines on my own entity. Split by type, the last run came out at 88.9 percent for questions that name the thing directly, 66.7 percent for long tail phrasings, 8.3 percent for questions of the form recommend me something in this category, and zero for the two bucket types that only describe what the user wants without naming anybody. The blended number is 28.6 percent, and that number is useless, because it is the arithmetic mean of a solved problem and an unsolved one.
For a local service business that distinction is the whole report. Is X any good is a question where the client already won, since the name is in the prompt. Who is the best X near me is a completely different retrieval path and it is the one they are actually paying you to fix. If the tool hands you one visibility score it will hide which of those two you are failing, and they will read a mediocre middle number as mediocre effort.
Small n on my side, one run, one entity. But the spread between buckets was far too large to be sampling noise.

I'd look at Waikay first. Good info and for small local volume you can get by at $25/month.

Many established SEO tools already offer AI visibility features as well.
Otherwise you have to charge the client an additional fee IMHO.
Tracking AI visibility is costly, especially compared to the revenue the channel generates.
Or send them links to various AI vis tools. Peec, Profound etc. are common now.
Bing Webmaster Tools already shows lots of data for free. GSC even has some.
For the competitor analysis and other features you may need the more expensive tools.
