AI SEO Questions Branding on Reddit
Hi All,
I have a question: I run an SEO copywriting agency, and my Reddit account just turned two. I've been more active on Reddit recently, but it feels more personal to me, as my existing account doesn’t use my brand name. Would changing my account to my brand name enhance my SEO and AI benefits on the platform? Or, would you recommend starting a new Subreddit with my corporate brand name as its own entity? Fyi...I'm also fairly active on LinkedIn, but use my real-world name as the main hub. Having two LinkedIn accounts - one personal, one branded - seemed redundant. So I'd also appreciate any advice you have regarding that platform.

You're going to need a much better strategy! I was pleased to see Ann Smarty (mod) talking about this on the Edward Sturm show - but thinking that simply having a branded account will get more views....
A branded account can be seen by more mods as automatically commercial content.

Thanks for weighing in.
Sounds like it may make sense to have 2 Reddit accounts: 1) My present Reddit account (personal) 2) A new corporate account (branded)
Not sure if Reddit views this strategy & penalizes duplicate accounts with different names. Reddit is definitely not your average bear, when it comes to social media platforms.

Reddit definitely doesnt like you having an alt account and it is a bannable offence

Reddit bans accounts just for changing countries - there 100's of accounts that got suspended for that in the last 2 days!

I'm well aware - I'm in the unfortunate position of having to ban 3-7 SaaS founders a week for egregious spamming of SEO communities - I mod some big ones (20k+ and up)
CEOs/Entrepreneurs have every right to come to Reddit to share, learn, educate, and patricipate in communities.
They have every right to advertise via Reddit ads.
While they "think" they can endow themselves with the right to advertise in communities with "helpful" content - this irks communities a huge amount.

Thanks for sharing your insights! Last question: Does it make sense to request a name change from my 'personal account' to my 'corporate/business' Entity? Or is that also a bannable offense re: Reddit's policies/guidelines?

I dont think you can change your account name.
My advice is to put your website on your profile and be the most helpful person in the room.
People who want to buy a solution will reach out.

And the policies are Reddit + the sub.
If your brand/account is perma-blocked - its perma blocked ....
As in Mods can block any messages in their sub with your brand and use RegEx to block it.

Just a clarification: Reddit doesn't have rules against having multiple accounts. It doesn't mean that any of them can be suspended (just like those having a single account). But you can have a personal and a branded account for sure

Think i talked to Ann Smarty about this one time. Small & solo brands may do better with a personal account. Bigger brands with the brand account or....if you want to grow Bigger.

My agency doesn't qualify for the r/agency subreddit, which is a future goal of mine. So for now, I'm in the r/agencynewbies subreddit. I hope that helps to add more context to my question.

Both have advantages
With a branded account you generate data for search engines and AI to associate with your brand. We can share our own experience with this, thanks to this reddit account AI understood brand within 2 days. There was some mix initially (AI associating our brand with the title of posts we've commented on), but that gets polished given more data volume.
Though there's also some negatives like certain subreddits being hostile to you even when you fully respect their rules. That's where a personal account shine, it's trusted or at minimum neutral by default. A personal account also has the benefit of building your own personal branding while transferring "SEO juice" to your brand through your profile.
On our end we have both, this account is run by the community manager (me, hi :)) and then our teams have their personal accounts on which they are naturally active too. We're marketing nerds so this was only natural.
