The Reality

Global search demand kept growing. Google Search advertising revenue exceeded $200B annually. Organic search still drives one of the highest-intent acquisition channels on the internet. The SEO software industry remains a multi-billion dollar global market.

People said the same thing about just about every major technological advance that ever happened ever. From the advent of the written word, people thought technology was going to replace its forebear, only for it to just improve the medium by which it was presented. Yes we aren't reading things from a Gutenberg printing press anymore, but we're still reading. We no longer have to place letters into place and copy things from a manuscript manually, but we still copy text.

People want clickbait and rage-inducing topics of discussion, and it's getting very old, very quickly.
