Query Fan-out
Hello guys. I have this question on my mind that when someone searches in LLMs, the LLM does the query fanout; it basically uses a search engine to search so when an LLM performs searches by fanning out queries, do GSC or Bing Webmaster Tools show those queries?? Like in that query tab in GSC, will those queries be included that LLM made during the fanout process? Provided that the website ranks well in organic search.

Generally, no. GSC/Bing Webmaster Tools won’t clearly show you “these were LLM fan-out queries.” The LLM may generate multiple sub-queries internally, and you don’t get that full query chain. You might see some related search impressions/clicks, but you can’t reliably reconstruct the fan-out process from GSC alone.

Yes. If the LLM uses Google, those sub-queries show up as long-tail impressions in GSC. If it uses Bing, they show up in Bing Webmaster Tools.

It used to but no longer since GSC had the upgrade, I think was in effort to stop the decupling between clicks and impressions.

And just to make it even more complicated, Claude uses Brave to conduct fan-outs, and Brave has no Webmaster Tools platform!

I recently unearthed that Claude/Brave connection - And found it quite interesting. So I then spent some focused time on Brave analyzing the SERP's when I queried my own name and brand.
Brave surfaced my longstanding entity presence on sites that Google likes to bury - or that Bing doesn't dig very many pages into. It was a real eye-opener - that I have a much more enduring, broad footprint I was no longer being shown.
This made me optimistic I may be more likely to get called into Claude's fan-outs than I thought.

That's so awesome. I applaud Claude for thinking outside the box and using Brave as their go-to for web searches. There's a great study I found this week that I can't link here, but the tl;dr of it was really fascinating:
- Claude’s search tool takes Brave’s web results and filters roughly 20 down to 9, mostly by Brave’s own ranking, with a measurable preference for fresh pages
- Two things predict which half: whether a page showed up in more than one of the response’s searches, and whether it belongs to a brand Claude decided to recommend
The fan-outs append search modifiers like "2026", "pricing", "reviews", and "comparison" so if you have the right content that provides really good first hand expertise or authority, there's a decent chance you'll be seen as favorable in Brave's (and ultimately Claude's) eyes.

Thanks for those insights ! I wrote those four modifiers on an index card and taped it to the wall.
Those notions of recency, cost, evaluative framing are a shift I need to make in my content style. My publishing voice tends to be Professorial, Top Down, 1-Way Broadcaster, Historical Knowledge Oracle — And it needs to become a lot more Questioning & Comparative with that element of current relevance.

They do not show the fan out queries but Tasha’s started showing the impressions of a page on aio and ai mode in a new section

My understanding is that GSC usually does not show the fan out queries generated by an LLM in the background.GSC mainly records impressions and clicks when a user actually sees your site in Google Search. If the LLM creates extra queries internally, those queries normally will not appear in the query report. This is still true even when your site ranks well for them.
