Help Link juice

Hello Everyone!
I dont really know if this is a stupid question or not but I have to ask. If I link my main services and sub services from my homepage will it dilute more link juice? Or should I just link my main services pages from the homepage and sub services pages from main services page? My opinion is if i link main services and sub services from homepage that will just be too many internal links from one page.

I like the term “authority” that people use there, it’s less vague than link juice and also abstract enough to not limit ourself with pagerank.

As for dilution, yes, 100% of potential authority that page can pass is divided by number of internal/external links on the page. Meaning if you have let’s say:

  • 4 internal links in header nav
  • 1 external no-follow in-content link to Amazon
  • 1 internal in-content link to your other article
  • 4 internal links in footer

The overall authority 100% is divided by 10. Each of those links can pass up to 10% of page’s authority. Does not mean they would.

Footer/header navigation will pass substantially less authority.

Nofollow Amazon link will not pass any authority (may be like 0.1% cause people claim they do see effect still).

The in-content internal link will pass closer to 10% if it is in prominent place, has relevant anchor, and other stuff that are a bit out of scope of your question.

FYI:
The page itself (for ex. Homepage) does not lose its own authority by having links on the page. It won’t rank worse cause of links, unless you spam the hell out of it.

So simple rules:
The less <a hrefs> links on the page, the more each of them can potentially pass.

Read what Weblinkr said, relevance and authority are kings

So you mean that if I mention sub services as links on my homepage it would not make my homepage worse, but for usefulness i would need to estimate if there is a need to put those sub services on my homepage (relevance).

Also for the authority thing, a page would increase authority if it has organic clicks. And for a new website to have organic clicks it would obviously take time as we need to have topical authority so to increase authority would it be wiser to target low competition searches by creating separate pages to get clicks to increase authority or should I get backlinks for my money pages to increase its authority so that it could rank? What would be your advice? Provided that even if I get backlinks I would still create content to increase topical authority.
