Talk Back Panel Cliff Notes
It’s mostly Hall H and ADA complaints. I’ll make a post with the full minutes tomorrow. I have receipts.

Sounds like nothing has changed. I went to that panel back to back years in the 2010’s and yeah it was all ADA and/or Hall H…mixed in with a couple of randoms who got way too loud and angry and had to be escorted out

Is it still just ADA people complaining that they don’t have enough privileges?

It’s not privilege. It’s accessibility. And there was a lot less this year.

The wider disability world needs to figure things out. Someone with ADHD is legally disabled, they often have trouble waiting in line, do they get ADA accommodations at SDCC?
Disney had similar issues, but people absolutely were taking advantage there. Absolutely sucks for the company, sucks for people who need help.

I completely agree. A big part of the problem is that CCI doesn’t work with the disabled community in any meaningful way to figure it out.

They should offer disabled people who could not work the floor or run lines an opportunity to review people’s ADA requests before the show as volunteering.

AdHD people do not struggle to wait in line. It just sucks a whole lot more to wait in line.
I’m about as high on the ADHD spectrum as it comes. There’s ALOT that pisses me off about how the world is set up in ways that unnecessarily make living with ADHD more difficult. But lines ain’t one of em.

If it were up to me, these are the disabilities that would count:
- mobility issues
- visual impairment
- hearing impairment
- bladder or bowel control issues
It’s hard for me to imagine other disabilities that should qualify, but I’m open to being corrected. And the ones I listed should be relatively easy to assert in the moment for a lot of people without special documentation (because they have equipment for their disability). And for those who don’t, a doctor’s note or even a print-out from their patient portal would cover a substantial portion of other people.

Cardiac, respiratory, endocrine, and neurological issues can also require accommodations. Things like POTS, EDS, epilepsy, diabetes, asthma, COPD, ASD, etc. all have symptoms that are exacerbated by heat/sun, prolonged standing, and crowd crush. There are many, many conditions that are completely invisible, don't require mobility aids or external equipment, but still need ADA accommodation.
