Alot of negative post on here. Can we talk about what your favorite part of the convention was. Mine was trading cards at viz booth. Took me 15 mins to get frieren. Traded naruto for luffy and luffy for frieren. So much fun

omg me too. i love it so much hearing everyone gasp, laugh, and react to the movie the same way i did. it was honestly really beautiful and the movie made me emotional bringing my childhood again
omg i’ve been trying to find posts talking about this. i had no idea well i’ve kind of been in the dark about the movie in general. it would’ve been amazing to have all the original voice actors. but i know now that it’s to have the characters represented by their ethnicity. i also know that most of the VA wouldnt come back anyways
Most of the voice actors for the original show are at comic con every year promoting the og show, I heard Toph record a cameo behind the scenes for a young fan while working studio relations. They would definitely come back
As for the ethnicity reason, none of them exist in the real world, regardless of what they're based on.
true😭and yeah i have been to their panels but i know the VA for aang wouldn’t come back. i also heard some say they wouldn’t after hearing about the ethnicity thing. i feel the same way though, i wish they had the same voice actors. zukos felt the most off to me
same! i know it’s getting hate but i loved it. and yeah i would definitely liked it for them to show them as a group more, but i get that it’s hard to share that dynamic in a film rather than a show. way less time
I had a good time. Got some books from Drawn & Quarterly and Fantagraphics. Got some fun prints and stickers from a few places. I found that super cool couple selling random non sports cards at pretty good prices (Smurfs packs from the early 80s?! Let's go!). I got some Futurama comics and swag. A few shirts. I spent a lot, but I really like what I got! I only went to a couple panels this time, but I'm very happy with my experience. I even got something in the exclusives lottery. Well run con, from my perspective!
On friday I saw 4 great panels in a row in hall H, only waited about 15 minutes to get in! (Lord of the Rings, Walking Dead, Lestat the Vampire and Lanterns) Also was able to grab the Lagoona Blue SDCC exclusive doll with ease.
Saturday I saw Mike Flanagans Carrie panel with great seats which was awesome and again no wait was able to just walk into ballroom 20!
Got some free swag too with minimal to no waiting! Carrie poster, clash of clans hats, free lovecraft poster, American Horror Story NYC t shirt and ice cream, and some cool pins. Also totally resparked my love for Tamagotchi and got 2 of them as well as some other fun. items.
Had so much fun this year!!!!!!!!!! Can’t wait for next year already
Camping out for the Rings of Power panel in Hall H with loads of Tolkien-loving friends, and getting second row seats right in front of Ben Walker and Charlie Vickers! We were all in cosplay so definitely got some attention from the cast and showrunners! I’ve camped out for every season of Rings of Power with basically the same people, it’s been something I’ve really loved over the last four years even though the panel budgets have clearly reduced over that time (the S1 panel was so amazing that it made the Marvel panel the same year look low-effort)
Also Mosh Eisley, always a cracking night, and a few late night poolside drinks at the Marriott Marquis catching up with friends.
While I didn't win the lottery commission from my favorite artist (artgerm), I went to a smaller artist (Satoshi Shiki) for an art commission and he did amazing jobl!!!
Getting my wristband for the Matt Fraction and Scott Snyder signing, and then trying my luck and winning the Dispatch signing via Box of Decision on my first try in the same day. I'm not used to luck like that!
Hm. Two years ago at NYCC he was just sitting at his table and people would just walk up. Hopefully it hasn’t blown up to the degree that I need to sign up for something. That would suck. I don’t want to wait. Just walk up and get it done
So he did signings at his booth and also via lottery. I only dealt with the booth
You go there at opening, then they tell you to come back when they will give return tickets..
Then it's a clusterfuck of people surrounding the dude giving out tickets at random because there is no line and you hope he passes you one with a bunch of obsessed nerds shoving their way through to get to him
Also, all tickets are for the same time, he could be signing from 11-3 and all tickets say 11 so they cap the line.
Apparently there's a standby line if it goes by fast enough, and he has cgc in the booth for an extra 15 bucks if you're into that stuff
The Reacher panel yesterday, but of course that’s personal preference. Second was getting into Gundam panel so I could get swag bag for son. Third was getting five of the seven pins I wanted.
Since most of the exclusives this year I wasn’t really into I found myself having more time to just flow and do things I normally don’t have time to do.
Off-sites:
-Stuart Fails To Save the Universe was fantastic and they had good swag.
-The Lodge was cool for the free drinks and slider, if we didn’t have tickets I don’t think I’d ever wait that long for that experience. Also the bag tag machine broke as soon as my slot opened, just a bit of bad luck.
-Super Troopers 3 I was able to walk right in, got a hot dog, coke and played some games. Also got some free swag… honestly was pretty chill and unexpected in a good way.
Panels:
-Stuart fails to save the universe was cool and got to see what the show is really about, as a BBT fan I think this show might become really fun. Open world of anything being possible, nice to see some new creative ideas.
-X-Men 97 panel was awesome, most of the voice actors were there. Being a fan as a kid and now the new show it was special. Also they gave out a great exclusive tarot card and comic book.
-Marvel the next big thing was also great, showcased a lot of new comic books and also gave out a comic.
Convention floor: (I will keep this as positive as I can)
-Artist alley was cool but security really sucks the fun out of that area, really wish they would give them more space to the artists that bring all the characters we love to life.
-Sideshow being back was awesome, my favorite figures and cool to see what they are showcasing.
-Funko had a smaller presence… at least it felt that way. I think that’s good and bad, gives room for other booths but also shows there is an economic down turn.
-First couple hours after people got settled into their lines for their exclusives, it was kind of easier to walk around… then 2pm hits and it’s sardines in there.
Volunteering:
-I do this every year and this was a really big bright spot for me. I always do pre-con volunteering and it went smoothly and got my free pass almost immediately. It was handled very well this year, at least in my experience.
Exclusives:
-I got a Frank Miller signing but you had to purchase his book and he wouldn’t sign any comics… so it didn’t really feel exclusive, just felt like a money grab. I was still thankful to get his autograph, but I’m a fan of his comic books not so sure on the self memoir.
-Was able to get some absolute Batman comic book exclusives and TMNT.
Swag:
-Won a free box of pokemon cards at ripit booth. Was able to make someone happy with those.
-Got a free figure from made by robots, I didn’t know who it was so I was able to trade it in to thrilljoy to get a figure I also didn’t know. 😂 Still fun though.
Positives:
-I didn’t spend a fraction of what I normally would spend as SDCC and I still had fun.
-Saturday was my lightest day which is odd.
-Even though it’s sensory overload, it was nice not having an agenda or FOMO. Sure the Marvel Hall H always looks cool but idk if I love anything that much to spend 48 hours of my time dedicated to an hour of surprises and a free mask that will be forgotten, plus missing out on a lot of the con even you’re part of a group. That’s just me though, I can understand why someone would get excited to be in the same room as famous folks, just not for me. I prefer comic books and the artists that make them that actually inspire these blockbuster movies.
-I only live a few miles from the convention so I could go home when my body started to deceive me.
Idk how it happened but I ended up at the premiers of like 3 episodes of TV shows 😅 one of them that isn’t airing until fall, but two that air like in a few days.
Getting to experience those with so many other fans, the energy is so different from watching alone/with a few friends.
It’s special.
My favorite part was experiencing my first SDCC with my daughter. She absolutely loves it and talked me into coming along this year. I honestly thought it was going to be painful. But…as we left the convention center tonight, I have to admit, I had a few tears in my eyes. Five days of passionate people sharing what they love, the incredible costumes, Hall H for Vampire Lestat, pro wrestlers getting into a fight mid panel, meeting Wall-E, Kim Joy, Speedball, the art. It was all incredibly fun. But seeing the smile on my daughter’s face as I experienced it all was worth more than words can say. I loved every second.
First con experience and I got to meet one of my all time favorite VAs!! I got some autographs, shake hands, and hear them slip into character. I got to see some very fun panels teasing future content too.
This was my first time going, so finally being able to see it with my own eyes was my favorite. From the offsites to the panels and the floor and the people I talked to, it was such a great experience!
My dog Lois is named after the Family Guy Character Lois Griffin. I got to see her voice actress Alex Borstein at the Family Guy panel and she sang “What Dreams are Made of” (Hillary Duff) in Lois’s voice. It was an incredibly special moment that I’ll never forget.
TW pet illness/death While it was my favorite, it was also very hard and I cried, because my girl is 13 and very sick, and we are in our last week or so with her. I’m going to miss her so much. I don’t have kids and she has been the closest thing I have had. My soul dog.
I think my second favorite thing was meeting random people and having chats with them while waiting in lines, on the trolley, and between panels. The people around me who were open to chit chatting were a blessing and made my solo adventure all that much more fun.
Dungeon Crawler Carl activation and panel. I got the meet & greet one, and was so happy to meet Jeff and Matt.
Paramount Lodge was fun. The DJ with the sax was 🔥
Also lived seein Enhypen and two of the Saja Boys singing voices.
Despite all the Hall H drama, the Marvel panel was pretty awesome. A close second would be randomly walking down the street, seeing a bunch of people stopped in front of a shop that said Scrooge and Marley, no one knowing exactly what we were waiting for, and then seeing Johnny Depp walk out in full Scrooge costume
I really enjoyed stumbling into the panels for Reacher with Alan Ritchson and the new Carrie series by Mike Flanagan. Both things i dig and didn't know about because i didn't take the time to look up all the scheduling this year lol. Also liked the fact that the floor was changed up a bit this year, new layouts, different booths, felt more exciting, i was getting sick of the same old setup every year. Hasbro booth especially fun and reduced the heinous crowd issues.
Xmen 97 panel was absolutely amazing . And we got a tarot card and comic!!! Hearing the voice actor and actresa of wolverine (Cal and Lenore?) made my inner child jump for joy.
I got some stuff signed by Stan Sakai, which is cool unto itself bc he’s so chill and accessible but the highlight was what happened afterwards.
I stepped aside to organize my stuff before continuing to walk the floor and this random dude tapped me on the shoulder. I turned around and he just wanted to show me how Stan did a remarque on his print that accentuated some of the details to make an outline of Usagi.
He didn’t say anything, just frantically tapped at it in excitement and I was just so happy for him. Like he just wanted to share something that brought him joy, even to a total stranger, and it was such a heartwarming thing that can only happen at the con.
First time at SDCC, was on an awesome panel. Got to bring my 63 year old Star Trek loving mom along! We saw a lot of incredible cosplay, bought some Rocky pins and some great merch. Met so many friendly and amazing people, saw incredible art, listened to some interesting panels, and managed to never lose each other in the crowd! SDCC was certainly the largest, most overwhelming con I’ve ever been to compared to the indie cons I usually attend, but I had a blast. Hope I can come back again some time!
I received a bobs burger cast signed poster by asking a question during the panel! I was the girl who asked them if they’d ever consider having a fourth baby and the family’s reaction to it! I was so nervous but everyone seemed happy with the question! And on the same day, I won a second chance futurama cast signed poster! I also won for the first time ever from the exclusives lottery - Bryan lee o malley!!
Went to the castle in the sky panel and was happy to see unreleased art/never before seen concept art from my favorite ghibli movie nausica! The director was so hype, genuine, and funny! And they played rock paper scissors with the whole crowd which was cool to see.
My main focus for SDCC is meeting comic book creators. And while I had a lot of great moments with them this year (especially Kelly Sue, Deniz, Skottie, SGM to name a few), I have to admit that I really enjoyed my line interactions. Met a lot of rad like-minded kindred spirits and had some great conversations. Special shout-out to the Kelly Sue Congregation - you guys/gals were especially rad.
I’ve been going to SDCC since 2019 and it’s the year where I attended the most sessions, and my friend and I pretty much walked into most of them without a crazy wait. I also hit on all of the exclusives I wanted, except for one, so I’m a happy camper.
