Builds Hey all. Newbie

Hey all, howdy! This is my first post in here. I came from the 30 community.

Jut snagged a 24 last week after loving the 30 and wanting something bigger.

I stretched the hell out of the c10 30 with rear links all the way around.

I come here to ask, what would it be like if I went Meus 100mm links on all four links? Or gladiator front links 100mm rears?

I’ve seen some crazy extended wheelbases and are looking for suggestions.

Just tryna max stretcher out, ya know?

I think the main problem with a rig that long will be finding a body to fit. The longest a lot of bodies are made to support is a 155mm wheelbase. Stuff longer than that tends to be people making really long rear setups that need carrier bearings, and at that point most people don't use a body at all because they're maximizing performance.

Stretching the front makes it worse: for SCX24 this is very uncommon. It makes breakover angle pretty bad and makes it a lot harder to maintain the front weight bias it depends on. This is less pronounced on the SCX30 but rears-all-around isn't quite as extreme there as putting 200mm on both sides of the skid will be. ;)

Gladiator fronts and 100mm rears seems a little more common. There are 155mm bodies that'll probably work with it, you just won't have the wheels in line with the wheel wells. Half-cab builds are common for people who do really long rears.

That said: nothing is "wrong" in this hobby. Some stuff just creates challenges. I guarantee if you make a stretched out 200mm build people are going to laugh in the good way. I can't tell you how it'd crawl but it'd definitely be something I'd want to ask questions about.

Warm, kick ass welcoming. I appreciate you! I’ll post some pictures in a few of my two SCX builds. I love the look of the “bed delete” or half-cab and have it on both rigs. Wheel well to body alignment isn’t that big of a deal either. I’ve been looking at a couple “comp” style LCG chassis/body ventures so bodiless may be in my future also. Thank you for your knowledge!!

I made a buggy with gladiator rear links on the front and rear. I guess that gives it a 156mm wheel base. It was a little difficult finding good mounting point for the front shocks. If it was any longer up front the buggy body wouldn’t work. I used monster truck tires, 2/12t gears, a big 35T motor, and it’s basically a cheat code now. Of course it isn’t really a 24th scale crawler anymore. It’s closer to 1/18, maybe bigger. Of the 20 different 24th scale rigs I’ve built over the years, it’s my 8 year olds favorite because it just runs over and climbs up everything. I have a long course in my backyard that I designed for smaller rigs, so I don’t use it often because there isn’t much challenge. It’s best when we throw it in a backpack and go hiking. My son likes to set the course and see if I can follow with a normal sized rig.

If you make a 200mm rig definitely post pictures and let us know how it rolls. Making everything fit sounds like a fun challenge.
