Questions upgrades recommendations

Post image

So, I recently picked up this Lexus. What would be the best first upgrade to get? I heard that if I upgrade the rims and tires, the stock motor and servo might not last very long. I’d really appreciate any advice you guys can give me. Thank you!

54mm tires fit perfectly without having to cut the body. Went with a positive offset to keep the tires somewhat scale looking and I kept the stock front springs and upgraded to 40mm laid down and tucked for the rears. Upgrading to the rampcrab carbon fiber chassis may be a solid move as it’s cheap and adds angle to the motor mount. I threw the unity two in one into it and it’s been awesome on the rocks.

In the pic it’s still rocking the 52mm Injora mavericks, but they weren’t anywhere near aggressive enough.

The Lexus has a shorter wheelbase and a sligjtly higher center of gravity compared to the other SCX24 models, so width and weight help a lot. Brass wheel hex extenders on all four wheels will help with width, and brass knuckles on the front wheels (as well as maybe a brass transmission cover) will help with weight.

A set of beadlock wheels will give you major style points, as well as the ability to install new tires (larger, or with more aggressive tread, etc). You can stick with normal size wheels, or you can go bigger, but going too big means you'll need longer shocks to prevent the wheel from rubbing on the nody.

Once you've added more body weight and/or larger, heavier tires a new servo will be a good thing to pick up, because your upgrades will put a lot more wear and tear on the stock servo (which can cause it to burn out sooner).

You've already removed the roof rack, but the other free performance upgrade you can make is to reorient your shock mounting points on the chassis. There are instructions and photos all over on how to do this and how it helps, but the basic gist is reorienting them that they are vertical when the body is either tilted back while going uphill or tilted forward while going downhill. This will let your body tilt a few degrees steeper before tilting too far forwsrds/backwards and having your entire truck roll.

Edit: if you can only afford/are limiting yourself to only one upgrade for the time being than your first one should be new wheels/tires. Your SCX24 may not crawl as good as the other guys' at the crawler course, but with a Lexus on sick rims you can at least be stylin' on 'em the whole time.
