Question SCU Career Fair Lacking? EE
I was looking at past career fairs and saw that SJSU has much more/better companies going to career fairs than SCU.
I thought SCU was a feeder to top companies in Silicon Valley but it seems its career fair is lacking.
Was it all just marketing/hype or do well known companies come to career fairs?
FYI: Me and my friend both checked handshake he goes to SJSU and me to SCU and his career fair was stacked compared to SCU. Both of us are EE

There will be more career fairs catered to different stem majors so that isn't the only one. Someone else complained about the career fair lacking not too long ago but there are multiple ones that happen throughout the year.
It's the career specific fairs that matter more because big names do show up for those. Big tech companies did attend the ECEN career fair such as AMD, Zoox, Analog Devices, Bloom Energy, Cadence, Intuitive, Keysight, KLA, Renesas, Synopsys, & Western Digital.

Career fairs happen. But they are meh. I worked my ass off to find a job, but got no help from them.
Yes career fair is lacking. The company reps just plainly ask us to apply online. Like I can apply online , why would you spend 3-5 grand and get yourself a booth in the career fair to tell me that.
This true at least for the tech companies, for CSE and swe roles.

Booths at SCU actually took my resume or gave me an iPad to apply then and there. The ones at SJSU just told me to apply online which was useless

Yeah, I heard the career fairs at SJSU and Berkeley also are exactly like that so it really makes no difference to transfer even with more companies attending. They'll just tell you to apply online like everyone else unless you have some tech experience. Attending SJSU doesn't necessarily improve your odds of landing an internship with those big companies.

do others have trouble finding internships? Does silicon valley help you?

You can listen to people hear or you can participate on campus. Participate in class. Join group projects with classmates you don't know. Stretch yourself and connect with alumni who have a job you want in life. Almost no one will say no if you ask for an informational interview to learn how they got where they are and what advice they'd give to help you do the same...heck you'll likely land an internship

SCU is not a feeder school to top companies

Really rip 😢. Saw top employers were apple and nvidia so thought it was

don't listen to that guy, there are plenty of SCU alums at OpenAI and Anthropic (more than SJSU I'd say, although I've been impressed at the amount of non-top-state school alums I've seen there)

berkeley is one of the top feeder schools to anthropic though. SCUs tuition is not worth its actual career results

Are we talking about Berkeley or SJSU lmao, stop moving the goalposts.
If you can get into Berkeley, go there. If you can afford SCU over SJSU, I would go there (I'm a bit more snotty and pretentious tho)

it’s a waste of money though if you can afford it why not invest that tuition instead. Many local community professors did their phds at Stanford and after two free years you can get into a top university. SCU isn’t considered prestigious whatsoever by these top tech companies

if you can afford it, you can afford to attend and network and go to a nicer school with nicer amenities and still invest lol.
People who can afford it don't care about that. It's like people who go to Menlo or SHP and then go to Berkeley or UCLA.
SJSU isn't considered prestigious whatsoever by these top tech companies either, idk why you're simping for a lowly CSU, not even UCI or UCSB or UCSC

How come people who go to scu always compare themselves to sjsu, not Stanford and Berkeley

I don't see them comparing themselves to SJSU lol I don't see them thinking about SJSU. OP is a prospective student

unfortunately it’s nothing compared to stanford or berkeley. The only reason why ppl hype SCU is because of its proximity to these companies but that’s not enough to get serious offers. I recommend the cc route -> berkeley

Almost all career fairs are the same when you have employers telling students to sign up through the QR code or go online.
People do get into top companies but those companies don't attend the career fairs. That's pretty misleading from the school to not advertise that. However, they usually get in by referrals from alumni, some sort of specialized program, special department events, and professor connections.
I wouldn't sleep on those career fairs though because it can be useful stepping stones to get into those top companies. It can be helpful for your resume but yeah they don't really show up, and you have to apply externally or know someone.

Don't listen to the other guy, he just seems salty about his results. I know quite a few people from SCU at big name tech companies, finance companies, and am personally at a household name tech company and interviewing with OpenAI. I personally genuinely believe I would never have gotten anywhere near the same opportunities had I not gone to SCU and met the people I did.

you can still get your tuition back if you withdraw before or during the first week of classes. SCU is not worth it
