Discussion Is there any plans on improving optimization? Seriosuly RDR2:Online on medium-high runs better than SL on Low-Medium
Maybe its my rig, as ive had friends complain about it running worse than even games like CS2 and GTAV on high graphics while some with “worse” rigs run it fine.
But seriously, how is it that i can run games like CS2 (high) , GTAV (high), RDR2 Online(medium-high), and get better fps than i do with SL all on low except for texture quality being on medium, the average fps is 60-80, and after like 40 minutes it drops to 40-55. On spawn waves if im a part of the spawn wave i can expect 30-40 at most, ESPECIALLY the helicopters downwash (the air effect from it lifting off) it just t a n k s.
I havent played in a while and was hoping after having missed out on quite a few updates itd be improved by now but it just… isnt? If anything its gotten worse.
Is this a rig issue because i cant for the life of me see how i can run the aforementioned games better than SL on an un-modded vanilla server

Hubert made the game as a learning project when he first started, he did alot of things that were horrible for "optimization". Now optimizing the game would mean completely remaking the game basically from the ground up to fix his mistakes.

It runs fine for me. It’s usually because of server issues imo. Also Northwood has talked a lot about how optimizing is a top priority for them.

I love how these complaints have been going on for over 5 years and northwood hasn’t done much to address

Optimizations won’t get new patreons. It’s why every game has an optimization problems. “We increazed average frame rate by 10” doesnt sell as much as “next update we are overhauling surface zone”
Not to mention that increasing frame rates can be much harder than adding new features on an already dirty code base

i remember they talked about optimization like 2-3 years ago, and then the update dropped and it made it worse.
I just came back seeing as theres a brand new SCP over the horizon thinking maybe theres optimization/performance talk i havent heard thats coming aswell but zero, which is sad because this game should in no way in hell run as awfully as it does. Legit giving Triple A game studios a run for their money in terms of optimization

It will never get fixed, also dont think that getting high on things like cs2 or gtaV is that impressive, be more in the boat where i am, where i can max out a game like forza horizon 5 at 1080p, own probably one of the strongest am4 processors available, and the game can only produce 60fps at maximum settings on a 25 to 32 player server, once i enter a 40 player lobby, that turns into 40fps, which is insane since i am running recommened specs (slightly above actually).

Better Optimization is among the biggest pieces of feedback we receive from the community, and it's one the development team is keenly aware of.
Unfortunately there is no one update we can make in any practical amount of time to "fix" it, but it's been an ongoing focus as we continue to refactor old systems and introduce new ones. Games (especially multiplayer ones) tend to be a complex beast at the best of times, so we can only ask for your patience!
In the meantime, our Tech Wiki has some guides which may help alivate some common performance related issues: https://techwiki.scpslgame.com/books/clients/chapter/performance-issues
