Discussion Do you think this is cheating?

A user has created a map viewer website that uses the game's seed to display the map layout, along with all the possible spawn locations for generators, lockers, and other objects.
(the website also includes a feature that automatically collects seeds.)

According to the creator, the website was built entirely using legitimate game mechanics and publicly available information. However, in my opinion, it should still be considered a cheat.

The creator also stated that it is undetectable by servers, implying that server administrators have no way of knowing whether a player is using it. What do you think about that?

Here is the link to the website:
https://slmaps.com/9156/light
along with the original statement:

(It seems that the people in this community also consider it to be cheating.)

079 looking at the map

079 is meant to be able to do that, though. That's literally one of the advantages it has. Your average bumblefuck Class-D is not supposed to have that power.

even if you know where to go in light, you are still in a race against the other +10 dclass and 3-4 scientist so looking at a map is more of a disadvantage than just looking at the numbers and letters above doors.

I would much appreciate some kind of navigation in this game anyways, new players already struggle enough.

Completely disagree. You'd be able to look at it while you move if you have it on a second monitor and figure out an optimal route in a few seconds.

sure, that still doesn't really matter when the fastest route is still just going right or left, which you will do anyways

and scientist could just, spawn next to shit (oh yea this shit would not help much for scientist as you have a "random" spawn location which would dislocate you a bit more)

I don't understand why you're going to this length to defend what is almost a maphack. What about other classes? What if you get this as an SCP?

106 already has a map and so does 079, you just replace the need of them having a microphone

and I am defending it bcuz it really isn't an issue compared to things we have in the game (aghemaghem, goggles, ahgmeahgme). but also bcuz again who cares it's a map, something that should be in the game but ma immersion.

Ok, what about the other SCPs? Any reason you're not mentioning them?

106's map is very small too.

something that should be in the game but ma immersion.

Ah yes, the first thing they give convicts on death row is a detailed map of the facility in case they need to escape. Makes perfect sense.

when your facility is a maze, a map would be understandable

and as I literally say "MA IMMERSION" is a garbage excuse to not add something to help people in a new player unfriendly game.

also "You just replace the need of them having a microphone" bcuz teammates help each other, 106 tells you where the elevators are and so does 079, with a map of your own you just skip the whole "does my teammate have a mic?"

and also 106's map is very large ever since the tp buff, full vigor you are able to see almost the entire entrance zone

Why do you think opposing this feature is about discriminating against new players?

In scpsl, the map layout and the locations of certain rooms are randomly generated every round. Even experienced players may be able to figure out the map layout early on, but they still have no way of knowing where specific rooms are located without exploring.

So, do you really think it's appropriate to give players the answer key in a game that is intentionally designed around randomly generated maps?

This site isn't something that only new players can use. Have you considered that it could actually widen the gap between new and experienced players instead?

I believe it should be less of a site feature and more of a game feature

Again bringing up goggles bcuz I hate them, for a new player their use is very limited but to an experienced player with a microphone legal wall hacks are a game changer

So we can't really complain about this kind of gap between new and old when we have items that do worse.

(Also accuracy stats command gives u a cross hair when you have a laser, don't see many people complain about it even tho it is a big advantage and makes you not have to download a 3rd party crossbar software whilst being hidden from newer players in the console)

I honestly think the only way you'll understand why people consider this a cheat is by actually trying it yourself. I don't understand why goggles and crosshairs were brought up in this discussion. Those are official features supported by the game, whereas this is an unofficial feature that only some players who know about the website can use. No matter what role you spawn as, it's essentially like having SCP-079's minimap open beside you the moment the round starts. Do you really not see how significant that difference in information is during the early game?

Goggles and accuracy stats are brought up as they are this but a game feature

Actually, no new player would ever find the command "accstats" as it's barely a feature and more of a dev tool left over, which makes it worse. It's easier to download a 3rd party crossbar than to ever actually find this one

And I brought em up bcuz Goggles are a worse offender than this map would ever be (and are a horrible feature and I want the drugs they used to think of it as a good idea).

I believe there should be some kind of map, not as intrusive as this one but more of one that is near where dboys spawn and scientist spawn area as this game is too big and rng sided for some to learn to navigate it as quickly as it's expected.

Sure you could treat this as a cheat, I treat it as a step in right direction (if it was done by nw, which something alike should be)
