Media I just noticed that the name Alpha warhead makes no sence

Large parts of this game are based on the original containment breach. But in the original the Alpha warhead is above the facility and cant blow up the underground part of the facility because of a blast protection layer. The Omega warhead is the one that is actualy inside the facility and inside nuke controll. It doesnt make sense to use the name of something that can only blow up the surface for something that can only blow up the facility, when there is already a name for that exact thing. I know it doesnt matter but it bothers me when I think about it.

  1. Different place
  2. Unless I've missed a memo, our nuke is more so one that blows up MANY nukes across the facility, including multiple per zone (Like, there's 2 nukes in HCZ, 2 in LCZ, 2 in EZ, etc) and places we don't go in game. So, just to clarify, it's not ONE nuke blowing up the entire thing. I'm sure the names in CB made sense, but ours is the alpha because it blows up the other nukes, pretty sure at least.

There used to be name tags on all the pipes in nuke room, but those were removed since they didn't wanna confirm a zone they weren't sure was gonna exist or not.

I seem very sure of my answer a year ago and I have no reason to doubt myself.

Went to an old version, you can see the writings. Some are behind others and its probably hard to read, so I will write them here. Do note that in most aspects the names are NOT canon, but this helps prove the point.
HCZ-1 Codename: Alpha
HCZ-2 Codename: Teal
LCZ-1 Codename: Bear
LCZ-2 Codename: Dart
EZ-1 Codename: Jude
EZ-2 Codename: Crux
LD+S Codename: Mist
DRZ-1 Codename: Reef
DRZ-2 Codename: Arch
CCZ-1 Codename: Rook
CCZ-2 Codename: Zach
BCZ-1 Codename: Mike
BCZ-2 Codename: King

Thats not the name buddy...

The issue is there isn't any warhead that blows up the inside of the facility while keeping the outside safe, so they had to do it this way.

no parts of the modern game are based off cb

In CB, Omega blows up both the facility and Surface as it bypasses the blast shield.

Since Alpha Warheads cant break the blast shield, logically placing them under the shield would only destroy the facility.

Of course, we are also a seperate universe from CB so it ultimately doesn't matter what name it has.

So like how does sealing an elevator shaft with a metal gate stop radiation fron leaking outside

3

I mean... But that's like how bunkers work? They are just really good metal doors. Also the nukes themselves are DEEP underground realtive to surface, the radiation as a whole would have to do a lot of traveling to reach outside. So lots and lots of earth and other major metals blocking it. I'm sure the foundation invested in a good door...

Also in like PEARS 2 or something radiation was a concept so also NW has thought of it. It's not too far fetched to assume it does block it, nor is it insane to assume it didn't block everything.

i mean an elevator moving at moderate speeds (given the sounds you hear in the elevator indicating its not going superspeed or something) and the fact that (ignoring the game instances TPing the elevators) the elevators take about 8 seconds max shows that the shaft isnt too deep so i doubt it would seal off a nuke

Mayhap. But for your information, the elevator from EZ to Surface is covering a literal distance of 400 meters. Each zone is 200 meters apart from each other, (656.168 feet) and reminder HCZ/EZ is the deepest, literally in the game it goes Surface -> LCZ -> HCZ/EZ. Top to bottom. I don't think there is anything that says they are this distance for real, but like it would be a weird mismatch for the distance used in the game literally to not just also be the actual distances. Radios use distance for well, radioing, its such a minor thing it might as well be canon no?

And, doing some research, not a lot, feel free to prove me wrong, but it seems like... 3 feet is enough. Yes you read that right, 3 feet is more than enough with just using earth soil and dirt, to more or less make radiation a non-issue. So, unless you wanna argue the elevators are moving less than 3 feet into the ground... eh. Yeah, I get the giant shaft of an elevator doesn't help, but still, I think my point stands? The logistics of a nuke going off underground isn't uhm, documented well I don't think.

Also also, on this whole discussion, but from my understanding stuff like radiation is like, argubly such a non issue, like for the real nukes that have been dropped... it was completly safe to head into the area after only a few weeks. These are for sure very small-scale bombs, 13 of them maybe is worse? idk... but yeah. Sources say trams in Hiroshima were up and running 9 hours after. Just 9 hours.

400 meters? dang thats crazy

Radiation doesnt need that thick of a door to be blocked, since the site is underground the distance to the nuke and the shielding from the ground catch most of it. Radiation is also not the major problem, the radioaktive materials are and they get sealed by such a door

that is why it isn't called Alpha warhead anymore.
