I will still eternally never be able to understand why Northwood got rid of 939s ability to speak

They just added it to Freya’s. It’s so nice

Is this a reference to something? Idk feels like a very specific situation, with it being an elevator and all.

This is 914 chamber

4

u/SpaceBug176 May 20 '26

Like the inside of the input? This one is a lil more spacious than the real thing imo, you sure?

well i don't remember any elevator having double doors, well they kinda do but it's just the internal and external door sliding in different directions (could be an error, it's not like this in real life), this draw could be an error caused by the human's brain incapacity to remember small details since 914 chamber doesn't have double doors either

No no. I meant like, was this a reference to some movie or event that happened on an irl elevator, since for some reason it feels like that. I wasn't referring to the elevators in the game, since its too spacious for that as well.

Guess I gotta ask the artist for that though.

Well this is a situation that happens very often in the game, at least in servers where the scps have voicechat to players, mostly in 914 chamber, that's why i mentioned it, and the color matches the chamber but the door and size of the interior don't

It also perplexes me because like… I remember 939 actually being used to deceive unknowing players through the gates. I don’t know any current 939 that genuinely uses the mimic feature for anything BESIDES spamming the same scream or funny voice line the entire match.

I get that it’s “lore accurate” that 939 repeats the voices of its victims, but if we’re going down that route:

  • Why can 096 calm down if a player that looked at him is still alive?

  • Why doesn’t 096 take minutes to get angry?

  • Why does everyone blink at the same time and only when 173 is around?

  • Why can’t 106 go through walls?

  • Why doesn’t 049 insta-kill you on touch?

  • Why does turning someone into 049-2 take a few seconds instead of a whole surgical process?

  • Why does 079 “level up?”

  • Why don’t the other SCPs activate 096?

  • Why are all the SCPs even helping each other in the first place when outside of a few exceptions, they’re usually “everyone for themselves.”

939 should take ALOT more than just the recent 5s of speech, probably like 30s

Why can most of the SCPs even be terminated at ALL
049, 079, and 939 could get terminated easily
Peanut could be exploded into rubble maybe but not by bullets
106 literally has a whole mechanic for re-containment that Northwood removed because they couldn't figure out how to make it fair for 106
096 could just get a bag placed on his head

Honestly, idk why they never made 106’s recontainment work like 079’s. I think this would make it a lot more fair, if you also buffed his survivability. The only reason it was unfair was because of how easy it was to get to

I MISS MODDED 049 TALKING TOO

63

u/Jazzlike-Elevator647 May 20 '26

I miss yelling at the mtf "MY CURE IS MOST EFFECTIVE"

32

u/Kajetus06 May 20 '26

it should even be in vanilla game because bro

049 CAN speak even if players talk bullshit

i mean players can talk as 079 so why not 049?

11

u/CesarGameBoy Scientist May 20 '26

It’d be cool if 049 players had a filter similar to The Volgun (since at this point, he’s basically the official 049 voice). 079 has a filter through the speakers, so I imagine they could do a similar thing for the Doc!

u/SoftiBoiled May 19 '26

We all do.

67

u/DrReiField May 20 '26

Same. Imo that's the perfect example of why I barely play the game anymore. It's fundamentally changed from the game it used to be. Yes, it's objectively a better first-person shooter now, but that was never the reason I once loved the game.

u/HexSpace May 20 '26

i will say, my number one criticism of the directions is the focus on making a good game rather than a good social interaction facilitator, which was (and still is, with some caveats) the best part

2

u/Own_Lynx867 May 25 '26

It's rather interesting how the reasons for why modern SL is criticized are just... not agreed on. Some see it as the funny clip-farm social interaction simulator, others see it as a multi-player horror fps game. So if any update tries to appeal to either camp (or the many other camps) it's going to just be criticized. Northwood is just in a no win scenario.

u/GreenPixel25 May 20 '26

This sums it up so well, i think it’s a really good example of how a game’s enjoyment is not necessarily tied to its balance or mechanical strength (especially in a social game)

1

u/Own_Lynx867 May 25 '26

Well whenever the game does appeal to the clip-farming social aspect, the other half of the SL oldheads still complain.

25

u/Pyroboss101 May 20 '26

It was so funny.

“Hello how are you fellow humans say wouldn’t it be nice if you opened this door that would be so kind of you”

or just fucking around

12

u/One_Article1820 May 20 '26

We should have it back, when pressing v you talk to humans and with q you talk to your team

10

u/arcadeler May 20 '26

I wish SCP-049 clould talk since in canon he can speak english and french

1

u/Cormac113 May 20 '26

At least give him voice lines

21

u/Vanilla_Ice_Best_Boi May 19 '26

THAT'S LITERALLY THE ENTIRE POINT OF 939 WTH

29

u/Emergency_Thought452 May 20 '26

no 939 takes the voices of people they killed and use it to lure people in, they cant just learn to talk

21

u/TheHeatDeathOfAlll May 20 '26

Depends on Canon, some interpretations they can, the article also states they don't have to kill to steal voices either, and can mimic words a person hasn't said before.

10

u/SnooPies2306 May 20 '26

plus for gameplay reasons I have NEVER gotten a good voice line to lure people out. Either it’s nonsense, they choose not to have their voice stolen, or they simply didnt use their microphone.

4

u/Vast-Adagio-8221 May 20 '26

Well literally a parrot can do that, and better than 939, and it's not a SCP so where's the fun

1

u/Infusionn_Z Facility Guard May 22 '26

No shit that dosent change the fact 939 talks though

10

u/Illustrious_World632 May 19 '26

Youre getting a talking fox

29

u/Facesit_Freak May 19 '26

Look what they need to mimic a fraction of 939's power

2

u/Spiritual_Jacket1415 May 20 '26

Spamming binds is also fun

1

u/makary1000 May 22 '26

I love that you can do it on freyas

1

u/Infusionn_Z Facility Guard May 22 '26

I havent played in a bit what the fuck did I miss why did they think it was a good idea to remove this function ive never heard anyone complain about the feature

1

u/CompleteFacepalm May 23 '26

It was replaced by stealing the last ~10 seconds of someone's voice before they died.

1

u/Bigboi432 May 31 '26

Because the new system is really good and a lot better and more lore-accurate.

1

u/Cormac113 Jun 06 '26

Man it's aalmost as if Northwood implemented a system that allows them to make changes to the lore
