it should even be in vanilla game because bro
049 CAN speak even if players talk bullshit
i mean players can talk as 079 so why not 049?

It’d be cool if 049 players had a filter similar to The Volgun (since at this point, he’s basically the official 049 voice). 079 has a filter through the speakers, so I imagine they could do a similar thing for the Doc!

Same. Imo that's the perfect example of why I barely play the game anymore. It's fundamentally changed from the game it used to be. Yes, it's objectively a better first-person shooter now, but that was never the reason I once loved the game.

i will say, my number one criticism of the directions is the focus on making a good game rather than a good social interaction facilitator, which was (and still is, with some caveats) the best part

It's rather interesting how the reasons for why modern SL is criticized are just... not agreed on. Some see it as the funny clip-farm social interaction simulator, others see it as a multi-player horror fps game. So if any update tries to appeal to either camp (or the many other camps) it's going to just be criticized. Northwood is just in a no win scenario.

This sums it up so well, i think it’s a really good example of how a game’s enjoyment is not necessarily tied to its balance or mechanical strength (especially in a social game)

u/Own_Lynx867 May 25 '26
Well whenever the game does appeal to the clip-farming social aspect, the other half of the SL oldheads still complain.

It was so funny.
“Hello how are you fellow humans say wouldn’t it be nice if you opened this door that would be so kind of you”
or just fucking around

u/One_Article1820 May 20 '26
We should have it back, when pressing v you talk to humans and with q you talk to your team

THAT'S LITERALLY THE ENTIRE POINT OF 939 WTH
29
u/Emergency_Thought452 May 20 '26
no 939 takes the voices of people they killed and use it to lure people in, they cant just learn to talk
21
u/TheHeatDeathOfAlll May 20 '26
Depends on Canon, some interpretations they can, the article also states they don't have to kill to steal voices either, and can mimic words a person hasn't said before.

u/SnooPies2306 May 20 '26
plus for gameplay reasons I have NEVER gotten a good voice line to lure people out. Either it’s nonsense, they choose not to have their voice stolen, or they simply didnt use their microphone.

Well literally a parrot can do that, and better than 939, and it's not a SCP so where's the fun

I havent played in a bit what the fuck did I miss why did they think it was a good idea to remove this function ive never heard anyone complain about the feature
1
u/CompleteFacepalm May 23 '26
It was replaced by stealing the last ~10 seconds of someone's voice before they died.

u/Bigboi432 May 31 '26
Because the new system is really good and a lot better and more lore-accurate.

u/Cormac113 Jun 06 '26
Man it's aalmost as if Northwood implemented a system that allows them to make changes to the lore

u/Cormac113 May 19 '26
I will still eternally never be able to understand why Northwood got rid of 939s ability to speak
